MDBG: Police official

警察
jing3 cha2
police / policeman / policewoman

guan1
official / government

Check Google for "警察" and you'll see all the Asian city police force web sites you can imagine.

Yes, Chinese.

In Japanese it is keisatsukan or けいさつかん: police officer or policeman. Right?

i dunno. けいさつかん has a ovt in hundreds, 警察官 has ovt of 20k

and in Chinese I thought it was just 警察, the 官 seems to be unnecessary

but hey, i'm guessing hence the thread.

Re: Stuff just laying around

From what I understand, 警察 is keisatsu (けいさつ) and just means police versus 警察官 keisatsukan (けいさつかん) policemen/man or police officer.

警察官 is the more common usage, it seems to me versus けいさつかん.

We see Kanji 漢字, Romanji 音韻, Kana, Hiragana with many Japanese terms and some forms are more commonly used. I am not an expert. Just my two cents.

when i work out what it means :p

I was in the middle of developing another site, and got sidetracked like you do into checking availability of the professions. They mostly seem to be owned by TDC surprise-suprise

but i found this in com and net unregged, and also fireman in net. The rest were gone or reserved across the board in com/net/jp, and i must have checked like 50, from bank clerks to hairdressers, to pilots...

As i understand, the japanese cukture is crazy over uniformed occupations, like the bus driver, train conductor, fireman, hotel housekeeper (in frenchmaid attire) etc. :p

Google trend would show that 警察 is most common in china, japan and taiwan. 公安is also used in china and japan. In japan, 公安 is less common than 警察官.
