NeuStar Launches Chinese and Japanese Language Domain Names in .BIZ TLD
STERLING, Va., March 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NeuStar, Inc. (NYSE: NSR) announced today that it has deployed internationalized domain names (IDNs) for both the Chinese and the Japanese languages in the .BIZ top- level Internet domain. Interested registrants will be able to secure .BIZ domain names using these characters as of April 21, 2007.
.BIZ IDNs enable companies and for-profit organizations worldwide to register domain names in their languages of choice. NeuStar has offered .BIZ IDNs in Spanish, Danish, Icelandic, Norwegian and Swedish since November 2006, and in German since 2004. NeuStar's Chinese and Japanese IDN offerings make available more than 19,000 Han and 178 Katakana and Hiragana characters, which are commonly used in China, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and Taiwan, and in Chinese and Japanese communities around the world. The complete Chinese and Japanese language tables can be found online at http://www.neustar-registry.biz/idn. "China and Japan are two of the world's largest markets for IDNs, and BIZ is the first global domain to implement Chinese and Japanese IDNs in a manner that fully respects the linguistic cultures of both language groups," commented Richard Tindal, vice president of domain name services at NeuStar. "With IDNs becoming more prevalent, we expect that .BIZ will become an essential component of every savvy international company's media mix, particularly among firms with large Chinese- and Japanese-speaking customer bases. Because .BIZ is a generic TLD, it is global in scope, and can reach businesses that operate in these languages anywhere around the world." NeuStar's Chinese and Japanese IDN offerings in .BIZ not only help protect intellectual property rights and brand consistency through the bundling of like names, but also mitigate homographic and "spoofing" attacks across the two widely-used language groups, which share a large repertoire of Han characters. Further, NeuStar's solution reinforces the company's commitment to adhere to the recommendations put forth by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the China Network Information Center (CNNIC), Japan Registry Service Co. Ltd. (JPRS) and the Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC). All IDN names in .BIZ can be registered in one- to 10-year increments, and will be available on a "first come, first served" basis from accredited .BIZ registrars. IDNs in .BIZ work in all major Web browsers including Internet Explorer 7, Firefox and Safari. http://sev.prnewswire.com/telecommun...2032007-1.html |

Dot Biz may not be massive but Chinese and Japanese are.
For those that have "missed the boat" on dot com, this is a good opportunity to pick up something and should raise a lot of interest.

Re: NeuStar Launches Chinese and Japanese Language Domain Names in .BIZ TLD
It will be interesting to see if this creates a mini landrush among newbie IDN'ers who want to get their feet wet with good keywords and the established minority - us - who will try to ensure they don't.
![]() Could really spark much more interest in IDN's because of the publicity it will generate. .

A very recent discussion on the top black hat forum had this title:
.Biz Are They Real Domains? Inside people were discussing why almost everything is better, on Google's eyes, than buying a .biz... |

From a domain perspective (because that's what we're doing here right? or am I just in a wrong forum) .TV has little to no recognition in the markets that I trade: Japan, Korea, China, Singapore, Malaysia Sure you have the odd ball or two, but zilch for the public. .Biz is about as bad. .ORG on the other hand is often the 3rd of 4th most well known extension... at least they know its an extension. |

I know, it may need some revolutionary thinking, which do you think looks nicer? 体育.TV or 体育.ORG The ultimate question: Which do you think can be sold for a higher price 5 years from now? |

Re: NeuStar Launches Chinese and Japanese Language Domain Names in .BIZ TLD
Quote:
The extensions are supposed to define the underlying purpose of the domain. 体育 means sports/physical education (excite.co.jp) たいいく 体育 physical training 《略: P.T.》; 〈科目〉 physical education 《略: P.E.》 体育の先生 a physical education teacher 体育の日 Health‐Sports Day. 体育館 a gymnasium 《 〜s, ‐sia》; a gym 体育祭 an athletic festival 体育大会 an athletic meet. .ORG would be a better fit than .TV for a Phys Ed program. .ORG is already an accepted and recognized domain extension. They struggle to sell .TV as a television extension in the States. I hope you know what they say about a bird in hand. |
