Language Problem with Words

I saved a few Chinese and Japanese words into Notepad and it showed me ??, ????, so on.

I put them back on to a translator and it showed me ??, ???? as results.

What happened to names I copied?

Re: Language Problem with Words

Here is a suggestions
Get a Google account
Sign up for Google Docs
Google handles multiple languages pretty well.
This way you don't have to worry about your PC messing up your text.

Re: Language Problem with Words

You need to save as UTF-8. That should work.

If standard notepad can't do that (I don't remember), there are free, more advanced notepads available for download that can save as UTF-8.

Re: Language Problem with Words

You can save Japanese and Chinese characters perfectly fine with notepad.

When you click on 'File' >> "Save As"

When that box pops up, where you name the file and where to save it there are 3 options at the bottom:

File Name: "The name of your file goes here"
Save As Type: "Leave this as it is"
Encoding: "Change this from ANSI to Unicode or UTF-8"

Your source needs to save it in UTF-8 or unicode, it's no good you trying to save a non UTF-8 or unicode encoded text file if it wasn't originally saved as UTF-8 or unicode
