Status of IDN.IDN

Received some interesting info regarding DName from one of our own yesterday.

http://www.gnso.icann.org/mailing-li.../msg02043.html

I thought the measured response to a rather rediculous submission was very telling indeed. I thought the following phraselogy was very interesting:

<<I hope the clarifications and comments below are
helpful, but suspect that we are nearing, and may have reached
or passed, the point at which further comments from either a
technical perspective, or even a "best interests of Internet
users" one, are useful.>>

I John C Klensin, who is very influential in these matters, effectively saying that he thinks DNAME is a done deal?

If anyone else has info on this subject I would be grateful to hear it.

Re: Status of IDN.IDN

I don't know who he is but he repeatedly uses this "xn--e1aajebclaqxm4e" or "коммерческий" meaning commerce for russian dname. It "WAS" available so I registered it and "комм" just incase they try and throw me a curveball. I'm surprised you didn't pick up on that Dave, must be slipping! The .nets are available.

This only reaffirms my belief in Verisigns use of "ком" as the dname only making my set that much more valuable.

Re: Status of IDN.IDN

John Klensin, IETF Liaison (until June 2005)

He was former Director of ICANN. I believe he is the main expert in designing IDN.
