Dot Biz Reg Numbers ?

Anybody have the amount of Dot Biz's that got whipped out in the last 2 weeks ? Took a brief spin around the block and things are looking pretty dry.

Re: Dot Biz Reg Numbers ?

Lots of registrations in both Japanese and Chinese .biz IDNs too. Yeah, interesting to see the numbers.
I understand there was a poll on EACHNIC about .biz so maybe spurred some interest from those domainers.

Also, .biz is a gtld, vs. a cctld which perhaps has helped its popularity.

Re: Dot Biz Reg Numbers ?

All it says to me are that the .com and local TLDs are pretty much regged out for major terms, so people are getting "what they can". In this case, "what they can" = .biz. You can replace .biz with .ws and countless future TLDs that will support IDNs.

But imho, its not a good tactic. It has proven a failure with ASCII and will prove the same failure with IDNs. The big money is in .com and ccTLDs. If you don't have them, you aren't in the real game.

I think your are right...providing the ccTLD is for same country as the IDN.

For the rest, still an opportunity to make 250% - 800% return on your money for flipping .ws, .tv etc. etc. for good keywords.
That means selling them for $ 25 to $ 75 each which is certainly achievable for the top keywords.
Certainly more exciting than the 5% annual interest banks are currently paying on certificates of deposit.

Frankly there has been an awful lot of distraction with what are frankly novelty extensions. If they aren't worth much in ASCII, it is hard to see them making much impact in IDN. We saw all the hype around dot TV last week. Has it been successfully relaunched as a major contender. Not from where I am standing it hasn't.

It seems to be deeply ingrained in the psysche of all but the successful domainers to register anything and everything but never to invest in serious domains in the secondary market. This attitude is very odd as that is precisely where most of our laterday heros picked up their best names, indeed in most cases nearly all of their names.

I can understand why many have backed off the secondary markets in ASCII dot com because the stakes are getting very high now, and it certainly not without risk. The same, however, still doesn't really apply to the IDN secondary market. There are still wondeful opportunities there for those with the foresight and grit to grab hold of them. But as with everything else this will follow the ASCII market and soon they will be out of reach for the vast majority. Time is short. Make the most of it.

IDN hasnt hit the masses yet so we don't know if these "novelty" extensions are "novelty extensions"

Also Bill you raise some great points about the ROI.

It is unlikely that even dot com will be as dominant in Asia as it is in the US.

It is more or less inconceivable that extension that been unsuccessfully launched onto the US market are suddenly going to explode into Korea and China.

Everyone is entitled to dream. And most of those that do will end up with exactly that . Dreams!

As spoken by Giant "China is going to need a LOT of URLs" as their internet population grows.
Domainers and endusers have swept up most .cn, and seems they were strong on .biz as well.
Even the flippers aren't letting the better ones go cheap, much less putting them up for sale at all.

I agree, and so does CNNIC as they have already launched about 30 extensions.

Perhaps Dot Biz will find a niche. Dot CC already has. It is still going to be very small beer alongside dot CN and Dot Com. However, this argument does give me confidence that there is room for both dot CN and dot Com.

Re: Dot Biz Reg Numbers ?

Dude why is it so hard to understand that the U.S has nothing to do with this ? Furthermore if you have done any Dot Biz hunting you will see many Japanese in the whois. Thirdly like Craig said the .biz extension has popped up on Japanese registrars where only before they carried .com and .net leading him to believe this maybe the the 3rd ext. of choice. And for the record i don't hold 1 .biz as i cant even find one as they are all whipped out . Also i have seen things pertaining to dot biz that i wouldn't post because im still going to look until i find a decent one and i dont need a stampede looking to do the same.

But at the end of the day Dot COM and CCtld Holders should just be smiling even more as when these ext. get whipped out our names only appreciate in Value !

Re: Dot Biz Reg Numbers ?

There have been a few 4-figure .biz sales in ASCII over the past year; such as:

Quote:
Traffic biz $8,000 Jan 07 Afternic
CRM biz $7,797 Jan 07 Sedo
RingTones biz $7,594 Nov 06 Sedo
OnlineCasino biz $7,500 Jul 06 Sedo
Greetings biz $4,555 Mar 07 Sedo
Score biz $4,427 Aug 06 Sedo
Unity biz $4,000 Mar 07 Sedo
BumperStickers biz $3,900 Aug 06 Sedo
Arthur biz $3,861 Mar 07 Sedo
Wellness biz $3,840 Aug 06 Sedo
CarInsurance biz $3,801 May 07 SnapNames
ForSale biz $3,550 Nov 06 Sedo
Small biz $3,548 Aug 06 Moniker/DomainSystems
Advent biz $3,500 Feb 07 Afternic
Mailboxes biz $3,500 Oct 06 Sedo
Foreclosure biz $3,000 Mar 07 Moniker/Traffic
Gold biz $3,000 Jul 06 NamePros
WDC biz $2,537 Sep 06 Private
Answer biz $2,507 Oct 06 Sedo
MortgageLoan biz $2,500 Jul 06 Private
And don't forget a couple of IDNs:

blockhäuser.biz (Log Cabin in German) sold for $2,406 on Sedo 2/8/06
holzhäuser.biz (Wooden Houses in German) sold for $1,768 on Sedo 1/31/06
städtereisen.biz (City Trips in German) sold for $1,311 on Sedo 1/31/06

I'm not saying .biz is going to explode, by any means. It may take some time to reach anywhere near these prices, also. And I also realize that if everything goes the way we want it to (and think it will), a 4-figure payday is going to be low on the list compared to what many of the single domains in .com or ccTLD held by members here would sell for.

However, my take on the Asian .biz was to get in early, reg a few premium terms and be done. My entire investment in Asian .biz cost $40. To sit on those for 10 years would only be $400; and I'll put my 東京都.biz up against any of the domains listed above in terms of potential monetary value...

I agree with RD, the aftermarket is young, and there are deals to be had everywhere. And I think we can all agree that .biz will not overtake .com. But I do think that hedging your bets a bit by going after premiums in a new extension, even if it is fairly speculative, still has some merit.

With the list of .biz sale values, you make my point completely i.e that .biz names are worth between 1% and 5% of .com equivalent. Nobody is saying premium terms in .biz are worthless, and they are certainly worth more than .ws or .cc or .crap, but if you are smart you are getting .coms or ccTLDs. Why have $1000 sales in 5 years time when you could be having $100K sales?

Yes, it will happen for idn.biz, but by the time it happens, my idn.com will be worth hundreds of thousands or million.

When will that be?
