Japanese help: Difference between 贈り物 and 贈物 ??

whats the difference between 贈り物 and 贈物 ??

both seem to mean "gift".

贈り物 has zero ovt but loads of google hits

贈物 has ovt but very few google hits


both translate as "Gift".

which one is right?

贈物 is a variant "spelling" if you will of 贈り物. OVT is treating it as the same keyword for search purposes but most likely, the majority of people use 贈り物 rather than 贈物

Just when you think you have seen most things, another like this comes at you. Japanese isn't as simple as i thought it was then

As I mentioned way back in the mists of time (ok, about a year ago) Overture has a nasty habit of "munching" hiragana which is "needed" in multi-kanji expressions i.e. where the hiragana is commonly/always present in everyday usage. I guess because some over-zealous programmer back in the day thought "hiragana = linkwords" and programmed the tool to discard most hiragana without regard for any kind of context.

A real example: my 乗り換え案内.com got over 2x as many visitors last month as 乗換案内.com - but if you went by Overture alone you wouldn't even know the first term existed!

mmmm. I remember you saying this last year. and I thought this is how it worked, as you described, but look at this one.

折り紙 - origami 100k ovt
折紙 - origami 2k ovt

its the opposite model to the one i described, where the:

贈り物 has zero ovt but loads of google hits

贈物 has ovt but very few google hits

weird
