The T.r.a.f.f.i.c that Rick does not know about: T.R.A.F.F.I.C China 2007

So on May 11th, DOPA launched an announcement on their site for T.R.A.F.F.I.C China, talk about bootleg. It's geared for May 18th. Here's the website:

Hangzhou is a nice city, maybe RD should pay a trip. Accomodation, food, and travel expenses would be affordable - the only major expense will be the air ticket.

I can't believe that Yahoo is sponsoring it, they are sponsoring the other Traffic event too

legally though, i don't think T.R.A.F.F.I.C is TM'd

morally though it is just plain wrong

Why? Rick has repeatedly stated that he has no interest in these markets.

Legally in Japan and China it is the first party to register the Trademark.

Silly thing to do though to specifically state that you have no interest in such places.

Actually, it is a bit daft them copying them really because as we all know these characters will mean stuff all to their intended audience.

Seems to be inline with the Chinese copying mentality, from Russian fighter jets to trademarks copying is the easiest way to evolve.

Yes, I suspect all those spam emails are actually final demands for royalties on just about everything include the Wheel.

Did anyone get any domains into the Moniker.cn Live Auction?

Will they be reported at DNJournal.cn?

kekeke, i thought as well. The web designer in charge probably had to fill up the right column.

btw, one of the invited guest is from an "american company":

* Stephen Bjerking
* Vice President
* 美国DM公司

Any clues?

The english site, a summary - http://2007.trafficchina.cn/EN/

Scientific inventions are really worth nothing in the long run, innovation will only bring about an empire lasting at most 100-200 years as shown by the Portuguese, Spanish, later the Dutch, the British, and now the American experience.

All in all a pretty dull agenda without much depth. Anyone know whether they plan to discuss chinese IDN or is it going to be an ascii showfest?

How the anti-IDN crowd might spin this:
"As everybody knows English is the language of the internet. Even in China, a TRAFFIC show is all about ascii domains baby! The IDN emperor has no clothes"

Well it would need to be boring, if it was going to be a genuine rip of the real thing. Told Rick month's ago that discussion on Intellectual Property should be expanded to include Asia.

I think it is likely that this has been assembled in a bit of rushed fashion and I would think that the introduction of IDN is the major trigger for them moving now. I would be surprised if they don't talk about IDN, but the English version of the Agenda seems to have been ripped from Rick's events so it will be an IDN free zone. You need to bear in mind the mainland Chinese probably don't use the IDN terminology very much. Dot Com is usually referred to as something like Foreign Domain. If the word Chinese is used in relation to domains, it almost certainly means IDN.

So, does anyone know what happened with this? It was supposed to be last weekend. The Chinese site isn't working, but the English page is still up.

OK - which one of you wanted a holiday in China and for lack of a conference to pay for it .. had a small one man auction in Hangzhou over the weekend?

I smell a tax write-off... speakers are impressive though (especially the local ones who put up the non-existent Chinese conference agenda page)!!!
