Sale of iPhone.com

Last month there was a sale of iPhone.com.
The buyer: Apple Computer

The Seller registered it in 1995 and used it for the cellphone sales.
His biz was netting less than $100 a month.

Negotiations took more than 2 years.
The final price was $37.5 mil

Compare with $12 mil for sex.com
Not IDN though.

How did you come up with a $37.5 mil? Read from somewhere on the internet? I don't believe apple will pay more than $3 mil for iphone.com. The ovt with extension for iphone.com is only 1000, i got many idns with more than that!

Re: Sale of iPhone.com

The Seller was represented by a very young but able lawyer.
They threw a curveball at Jobs: $100 mil take it or leave it.

Meanwhile, they also took several TM's for their domain in US & EU

SJ is still recovering from the deal

Re: Sale of iPhone.com

Most I have read were in the range of just over $ 1,000,000.

What links or sources do you have to $37.5 million?

Re: Sale of iPhone.com

Apple needs iphone.com. If Apple did not own it, it would be an embarrassment for Apple. Apple takes care of Apple's image.

Re: Sale of iPhone.com

xxbossmanxx may have a point.

Phone.com domain was actively marketed by two Califorina guys who bought it at the bankruptcy sale for a little more than $100k. Phone.com used to be a $5B public company which collapsed you know when.

They were asking $750,000 at Afternic, but privately they indicated that they would do a deal at a $400k level.

Re: Sale of iPhone.com

The name has likely cost apple well over 37 million for the right to use Cisco's trademark:
Quote:
Both companies acknowledge the trademark ownership rights that have been granted, and each side will dismiss any pending actions regarding the trademark. In addition, Cisco and Apple will explore opportunities for interoperability in the areas of security, and consumer and enterprise communications. Other terms of the agreement are confidential.

Re: Sale of iPhone.com

Oh yes,
there was a non-disclosure clause in the sale contract.
