At least they admit they are insane

Seriously, this domain "collection" must have cost a fortune to put together, and is 99.9% full of the most awful bs. I bet the contact details are from a looney bin somewhere ....

Re: these guys actually advertise their domains for sale on dnjournal

This is one of the worst collections of domains I have seen together. Almost like they intended to register some of the worst stuff possible. There are so many "better" but still awful names out there they could have registered!

Re: these guys actually advertise their domains for sale on dnjournal

Completely out of left-field here, and fuelled along by a few reds tonight...BUT...

Project yourself 15-20 years in the future - could these domains be worth $$$$$$...?

I mean, ASCII has 26 letters, numerical and the almost pointless "-" to work with per TLD (at the moment) right?

If the goal posts aren't shifted in the next 20 years, and even considering the given of an inevitable IDN boom amongst native speakers - could the exponential growth of the net find a place for serious value in these domains that appear so worthless right now?

Stupidity or Genius?

The Devils' Advocate....

It is bad enough going where they have gone.

I doubt if they have 20 years worth a renewals set aside, and if they did that would be ten time worse.

Why just flush money down the pan, when there are opportunities going begging.

Here you are speaking specifically of IDN opportunities?

Maybe in 20 years time the same s#@t in it's equivalent form will be peddled in a multitude of various languages...?

There are plenty of new reg ASCII with more user appeal than this rubbish.

I can understand that IDN is not for everyone, although making money invariably requires some innovation.

Assume everyone of the planet needs a domain. Say 1x10^10. If you have 36 alpha numberic characters then even with the limited number of gTLDs available today you could do that comfortably with 6 characters. Take ccTLDs into account and you could do it with 5. Where exactly is the demand for 10-15 character gobbledegook going to come from, even in 20 years? And that is without taking the potential of the hyphen into consideration!

Also, try to think of Web addresses like telephone numbers or car registration plates. Not many will have much value!

1. Someone got some angel investor's money.
2. Someone didn't know what they were doing.
3. Money was spent, advertising bought.

Re: these guys actually advertise their domains for sale on dnjournal

This list truly fascinates me.
It's like trying to swallow all the sand on a beach.
I had time to kill, so here's so more info:

-The list totals about 13 000 names
-Half coms, half whatever
-A bunch of possibly worthy LLLL
-500 MY..., 500 THE...
-A ton of TM
-Names starting with number 3, 6 an 7 were skipped for some reason
-Apparently registered a month or two ago, some for 2 years

Averaging 7$/name, it would amount to about 100k/year.
They probably had a big reduction for megabulk though. You could buy the whole french IDN dictionary + conjugated verbs for that.

Still, I have to say that the cost is less than I thought.
Tax-deductible peanuts for any company with money.
