Trouble registering names with Domainsite...

I found a few Japanese names, they're free to reg although Im getting a message while trying to pay for them that it has been unsucessful!

I then get an auto-responder email from DS telling me about ......"chances are the IDN you attempted to register was a variant of an IDN already registered. This usually means that the domain name contains native characters in one language that can be mapped to those of another. The Verisign registry currently blocks the registration of these IDN domain names but does not return a false check."..........

Does this mean it IS registered in a sister language or something?

Any input is appreciated..

You're right. The names are almost certainly registered in a related language as the characters will map to each other in many cases.

It can be quite frustrating trying to register these sometimes !

I seem to recall a member here though (I think it might have been Bill) saying that he kept trying one name and it went through after a few days trying....So I'm not sure how that kind of scenario can come about in the technical side of it all....

this also happend for "blocked" names. these are names reserved. who blocks them and reserves them? prob the government.

The names were very generic so I cant see why the government would want them, 'though you never know....

Anyway, will try for a day or two and see if they go through.

Those Japanese overture numbers sure get the blood going....

If you're trying to register generic term Kanji with salivatingly high ovt and receive the dreaded red-text error on checkout, I would wager that it's been taken in its Chinese form.

The Japanese market is pretty well covered at this point, and even the drops are fiercely competed for.

It could also be a DS system hiccup.

Happened to me in the past and got same auto responder email.

And Im betting that the 'owner' of the Chinese form has the rights to the kanji?

If there is an equivalent mapped form already registered, the alternate form won't go through as it's blocked at the registry. All registrars must query the registry before granting a name.

Yes Mulligan, I second Gamma on this - the domain has already been taken by someone with a "variant". I unearth those dreaded "available" domains all the time and I always just hold my breath and give it a shot. It works out for me like 1 out of10 times. When it does, I do a victory dance around my office.

If it' got high OV #'s I can almost put money on me knowing the 2 characters ou're trying to register. I've tried a number of times. :^)

Anyway, may have a problem with something I just registered.
Somehow it got into a list of 'Dreaded Reds', whacked the whole lot in and surprise, surprise one of them came up as available!

Quickly reg'd it, stuck it in Japan ovt and it cmes back at 114,131....
Thought 'great, wonder which one it is'


Its a place, but its also the name of a major Japanese company.

Just look in the members section for the list of Blocked & reserved terms
They don't get freed we've tried in the beginning & they're still unregisterable.

Please add to list guys to ease fustration.
I know we all want Kakaku.com & Shinbun (newspaper) but we can't get them...
