This seems to be one of the better Chinese dictionaries

http://www.mdbg.net/chindict/chindic...2Fchindict.php

It also shows 微机 to be: micro (computer)

Re: 微机 translation confirmation

Yes is correct for MICRO-COMPUTER... (literally means "mini machine")

Is really more of an IT term (and only used in simplified Chinese as I understand)... it is common among IT guys, but the general population would probably use just the word "computer" ("electric brain") a lot more. But will also understand the term "微机".
I.e. usage and connotations are the same as for English really.

Thanks for all the information. I also recently acquired xn--b0t31w.com (建模.com) which is supposed to mean modeling but none of the online translators are confirming that. Do you know if this a common word for modeling? If so, is it closer to fashion modeling or computer 3d modeling? Thanks

Re: 微机 translation confirmation

Hi...

Firstly - it means literally "construct model" and probably best translates to English as "modelling" (definitely not used to refer to fashion modelling).

At a quick glance the usage of the term on the Internet, covers mathematical modelling, 3D modelling and also as a part of the explanation or terms for computer, languages and others types of "modelling".

Namely it appears to be as generic as the verb / noun "modelling" is in English and is based around structure - namely is not just used to mean computer modelling, but does mean there is a structured element to the model, behind what this term is associated too (clearly it also can not be confused with fashion modelling / models at all, which is a different word and concept in Chinese altogether).

Hope comments help.

Cheers, Asiaplay
