Bored of the economy talk? Some cool snake pictures!

I am seriously bored of the constant economy talk, couldn't give a rat's arse if the dollar floats, sinks, or swims. But I guess I also have the ability to post off-topic stuff like pictures of a big, ugly snake caught in an electric fence.

What a snake!

Well all this talk might have some real implications for domaining.

I am seriously thinking of pricing Japanese Domains in Yen. The problem is that with the Yen nominally above 100 to the dollar, I would probably lose out. If the dollar drops below 100 Yen then I think it is a racing certainty.

You don't like my snake pics? :-(

Well, as most of the important buyers of EYE DEE ENNS won't be americans anyway, there is probably little need to price in USD. I am thinking of pricing mine in EUR, if I ever sell any, as that's the currency in which my bank account is denominated and it is valuable.

Actually, what I have in mind is to set the price in EUR in my head, and just use the conversion rate of the day when quoting the price to the buyer in his currency of choice (factoring in reconversion of course).

If you look at the picture, the snake was clearly accustomed to crawling under the fence but forgot to take a recent heavy meal into account. I think it only bit the fence once it got its gut well and truly wedged. A sobering note for anyone getting fat on IDN.

I was reading Digg & it said that snakes can go 6 months without eating & just did an experiment on it.

The one in the picture certainly doesn't appear to have missed any meals!

Quote:

The snake had eaten an impala ewe and was trying to go through the electric fence when it was killed by the electric fence. The pictures were taken on Silent Valley Ranch in the Waterberg mountains of South Africa. If you go to the site you will see the images of the impala that was removed from the pythons stomach.
Additional pictures appear on the Silent Valley Ranch's web site, which describes them as picturing an African rock python:
The Rock python is Africa's largest snake. The rock python eats mammals and birds.

Lays up to 100 eggs about the size of a tennis ball in antbear (Aardvark) holes, hollow tree or similar suitable place. The female coils herself around the eggs to protect them.

The snake in this picture had eaten a full grown Impala ewe and, sadly, caught itself in an electric fence.

Over four metres in length, this was a large specimen.

When the python was skinned we found a full grown Impala ewe had just been swallowed.

The python kills its prey by coiling itself around the animal and constricting it. When the animal is dead the python swallows it normally head first.Having swallowed its prey, the snake will find an abandoned burrow or hollow tree in which to hide and digest its meal.

A python's bite is not poisonous but would be very painful.

Re: Bored of the economy talk? Some cool snake pictures!

Snakes are a big topic when I'm in Georgia.
When you see one on the dirt road you pull out the shotgun & blow it's head off usually.

If you run over it, it can coil under a truck & will not be in a friendly mood when you step out your ride.
Also most people don't know rattlesnakes can jump straight up even when they aren't coiled.

Cool snake pics!

Olney, it is difficult to picture you in a pickup truck with a shotgun cruising down a dirt road in Georgia. Funny to think about it.

I saw a documentary in which insects can freeze up like a popsicle in winter and the defreeze in spring, and become alive!

Is that true! :p

Freaky pic there. There are a number of cases in which animals get trapped in the fences created to keep them away from human civilization and most of them die as well.

This fence has 3 layers! The first one obviously being a layer for big snakes like this. I wonder if he was trying to get in or out of the park.

Did you see the pic from the link where they cut him open and there was an entire gazelle in his stomach? What a freakin' monster!

Re: Bored of the economy talk? Some cool snake pictures!

I think the python was getting out of the park after having its meal and may be was looking for a safe place to digest the hunt and unfortunately got caught. Just saw the pic with the gazelle in the python's system and that was pretty good catch I must say.
