IDNs: End of the Scam

Andre is a shallow little man, in way too deep with the big domainers. He finally reached the end of his line of petty scams dealing on domain forums and failed "sure ways to get rich with IDNs."

Suicide seems like the only way out - if nothing else, it will annoy the thugs who would have caught his dropping domains anyway. He's about to jump (from a nonlethal looking bridge) when he sees a beautiful woman about to do the same. She does jump, then follows her into the river to save her.

One old idea says that when you save someone's life, you become responsible for that life. In that vein, the woman (Angela) places her gorgeous self in his small and unwashed hands.

Beautiful little story Blast... but who is Andre and Angela?

Opps - guess I have missed some details about forum members somewhere along the way (hence why this one is cryptic to me ).

Hope all is ok for you - cheers, Asiaplay

There was, in fact, a sad story of a young man in China, if I recall correctly, who blew it on questionable domain investments and went off to the afterworld... but he was not on this forum.

I received some Google news alerts (in chinese), saying there's are big scams perpetuated by IDN .cn sellers in China. They were selling IDN .cn registration by cold calling and hard sales conferences at like a thousand yuan a piece.

Some were conned into paying tens of thousands of yuan or useless IDNs.

Re: IDNs: End of the Scam

Thanks for Clarification Blast - I have to watch this one sometime (seems I better take it as a comedy - lol )

Touchring - it had to happen sometime... just like a lot of the Chinese IDNers post high prices in here thinking we are all rich ignorant ascii domainers and will pay multi-thousands for any IDN (surprises me what some of them register actually).
I wonder if that helps IDNs (getting known) or makes life more difficult in the short-term to trade for those doing that - guess time will tell.

Cheers - Asiaplay

I think it does good to IDNs - at least more people will know about IDN.

Each time a chinese IDNer manages to sell a $5000 domain, the news will spread on forums at the speed of light and at least fifty thousand others will know about it. :o

Nice sum up of what I have been thinking but yes, if some of those sales go through it may at least put idn's more in the spotlight but a reality check for some of the sellers would be nice as well.

Yes, but the problem with it is their attitude. All of those fifty thousand others suddenly think that every domain they hold is worth $5000, when the truth is that some of them will never be worth more than $50 if that. They sell between each other at "chinese prices", and raise the price 20-30 times for anybody else. On top of that, they think that non-chinese people don't notice this. Even the ones on this forum try to pull scams, sending anonymous offers for domains and trying to sell you the same type via PM at the same time, constantly bumping each other's sales threads with "good domain" comments but no bid, etc. It gets pretty hilarious sometimes.

It might not get better until the chinese government executes a bad domainer to set an example!

You can't blame them, .cn, even the very best like that single character employ.cn went for only low hundreds on native forums. Btw, I also placed a bid, but was outbidded at the last moment. :o

NOW! If international buyers are willing to pay 20 to 30 times of the local market price for the same name, it upsets the entire market and creates a "lottery".

Everyone will try and sell at an exorbitant price and from what i've seen on this forum, the chances of getting lucky is very high, and yes, flipping chinese names at jackpot prices is feasible and lucrative business.

In fact, i've seen quite a few worthless names sold for low to mid-$xxx, and possibly even $xxxx behind the scene. Names that would hardly sell for reg plus on native forums. If they sell at all, it is because the next person wants to try his luck here.

And to put things to perspective, $5000 to a chinese from a small city in an inland province like Henan or Hebei is equivalent to $120,000 to a guy from say New York. So, this is a fortune, and selling a name is like winning a lottery.

Chaotic it maybe, but this is the real Aftermarket starting to emerge.
