.asia IDN's

Can you confirm that IDNs will indeed be released under .ASIA in 2008? Will it only be Chinese characters?
[Leona Chen] Right now it's impossible for us to give a precise date. But IDNs will be the next key project for .ASIA after we've launched.

Re: .asia IDN's

It would make sense for .asia & .mobi to go in to IDN;s as it would be a good money maker for them because by the time they get around to releasing them IDN's will be well established and they will offer the few places that hordes of new IDN'ers can get in to the market without having to pay the huge premiums that will be required to own a good idn.cctld or .com/.net .

Benefitting , of course, the current owners of the cctld , com etc IDN's.

Re: .asia IDN's

Dot Mobi plans to go IDN.

Would you register idn.mobi or idn.asia is the real question....

You guys may not but newbies most certainly will! It's hugely positive for the future of IDN.

Re: .asia IDN's

But IDN.asia is better than cn or jp because it covers all of asia! Everyone knows Asia is monolithic.

And everyone over there has mobile phones, so .mobi is going to be bigger than any ccTLD, right fellas?

Just kidding....

I am afraid that newbies will go after those extensions and be wildly underwhelmed at the ROI. Do you really think it will help the IDN market? I guess IDNs will appear more mainstream with those extensions.

However, these ascii newbies will probably go after phishing domains and TMs first because they don't know the languages. They now have no Overture or bids tools to guide them. They won't take time to learn the language(s). They will be easy targets of dishonest flippers.

Trust me, ascii newbies can't even seem to understand that Google is not the Alpha and Omega. Yandex? Baidu? Rambler? Yahoo? Others? They see those as simple knockoffs of Google.

Not sure how this will play out.

Re: .asia IDN's

It includes the Middle East, according to dot Asia.

It must be a big place! I think it is somewhere in the Pacific.

If you ask the kids in Shibuya, they'll respond telling you they want to go there too.

Re: .asia IDN's

Well Sedo Auctions will determine whether the dot Mobi corpse can be resurrected.

If that fails no amount of pumping by Rick is ever going to get any life into these.

I think one will be declared dead on arrival, and the other could well be a still birth.

Re: .asia IDN's

As useful as IDN.name, IDN.museum, etc.

Only top keywords would be regged and those would languish in parking limbo awaiting an offer.

Well there is one possible use for the ASCII - IDN.museum!

Re: .asia IDN's

Even if you wanted IDN's in .asia, you would have to burst big bucks, cos they will be auctioned.

You have a source for this? I'd be interested in reading the article.

Re: .asia IDN's

Sometimes i feel that land rushes nowadays are like subscribing to IPOs in a sluggish stock market.

Difficult to get a placement, and after getting the stock, you make very little because everyone will be dumping out!

only the good names

this is from another forum
"Unlike previous new TLD releases, Pool.com will not be accepting backorders for domain names. This function will be done by .ASIA accredited registrars. In the case where there are multiple backorders for a single domain, Pool.com will provide registrars with easy integration into the domain auction process."

.asia also seems to be quite expensive to backorder, $150 or so on one register for 2 years.

ALL names that have two or more applicants will be auctioned via pool - .eu to the nth degree.

I recieved an email from Leona Chen many months ago, stating the same procedure will be followed for IDN i.e. auction

I also remember seeing it somewhere on the dotasia.org site.
