Re: Maori IDN .nz domains

Culturally great news... have a few friends who will be excited with this!!!

Commercially however, not so useful given the small number of native speakers (also noting that the same group of native speakers of Maori, all know how to read, write and speak English).
So when happens - remember any investment is for interest really and not for trading / development purposes by the majority here.

Cheers - Asiaplay

Re: Maori IDN .nz domains

When they say "hyphenated vowels" they actually mean vowels with "macrons" over them to differentiate the short and long vowels.

If I remember the story correctly, the Maori words for money and clitoris are a macron away from being confused when written down.

I think Latvian uses the same?

Yes, interesting the way written and non-written languages have been transcripted into Latin characters.

Why they didn't originally just double up like we do in English beats me.

Examples of long vowels include Meet and Boom.

Or is it the love of the Maori word a macron away from "money" - you be the judge

I think they used to, but changed to macrons.
