Debasing of the Currency

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programme...ox/7065183.stm

It would seem that the value of the coinage at least is underpinned by its meltdown value!

Re: Debasing of the Currency

hows about getting rid of the penny as real cash. we could still make electronic payments with pennys but who the hell cares if our cash transactions are up to 4 cents rounded off.

Re: Debasing of the Currency

How about a 1 fen or 0.13 us cent coin? The most useless coin in the world?

I wonder if it is possible to produce a coin that cheaply.

btw, they still use this when they add tax to the bill. :o

Re: Debasing of the Currency

Very interesting article. Never really thought of the cost of coin production before compared to the actual coin value.

Re: Debasing of the Currency

The price of the gas to melt the coins to raw metal would probably outweigh any $ gain. lol

Use a diesel!

My E320 CDI gets 41MPG US, 49MPG British, and can produce 470 newton meters of torque (that's 346 foot pounds). Not bad for a 6 cylinder turbo diesel.

I stopped driving gas cars a long time ago.

Mexico still uses the 5 centavo coin, which is worth approx USD$0.00466. Which is pretty useless too.

They install remote monitoring cameras at transformer stations in singapore to watch over the copper wires. Recycling is a dirty business, my friend's dad was in it for a few years, and had to quit the million dollar business because of leukemia.
