KTCN wants ICANN to “stay within its technical mandate and refrain from embedding particular national, regional, moral, or religious policy objectives into global rules over the use of language in domain names,” the organisation said in a Monday press release. It announced a plan to hand a petition to ICANN on 1 November and is soliciting signatures.

We knew there was going to be a lot of "politic$" going on behind the closed doors.

This quote caught my eye which backs up Verisign rights within the idn space.

Verisign have been registering idn.com and idn.net for nearly 8 years and they MUST have had a plan for them
within the IDN space. Additionally, Verisign has both ethical and legal responsiblity to those customers to protect
their interests in the "commercial" and "network" brands of each of the international languages they have sold.

Don't worry they also have a very distinct commercial interest of their own, which goes well beyond just the registries. These merely underpin much of their other business.

Agreed. Hopefully they can quickly establish some rules of law that will satisfy the issues at hand or this will be a very drawn out process. Another quote from the article that points up our discussion on Verisigns rights to all areas of the .com space.
