My first Russian IDN - греции.com
I decided to take a little break from regging Japanese IDNs, and today went ahead and regged my first Russian IDN.
греции.com
I think it translates as meaning Greece.
However, I keep coming across a similar Russian word ( греция ) which I also believe means Greece.
When doing a check on Yandex, it seems that the two spellings have very similiar results in terms of numbers.
However, on Google.ru, for греция you get 1.9 million results, and for the one I regged греции you get 3.3 million results.
Is there anyone in here who can shed some light on the name I regged, and if the twos words both have the same meaning.
Thanks as always for the help and time. It is very much appreciated.
Alex

I am afraid греция is the right word.

Re: My first Russian IDN - греции.com
You seem to have the possessive of Greece.
Check the US overture. греция receives 927 overture and греции doesn't receive any.
FYI, I believe all country names have been taken, except for some very obscure ones.
I've made this mistake before!

Re: My first Russian IDN - греции.com
Thanks for the replies everyone.
I has a feeling that this wasnt the exact term for "Greece", but had to reg it just in case.
Ah well, you learn something new everyday.
Thanks again
Can I ask in what context would I be able to use the one I regged ?? Or doesnt it have much use at all ?

Re: My first Russian IDN - греции.com
In context it would be:
"гостиницы греции" - Hotels of Greece, Greek Hotels (meaning Hotels of the country of Greece)
I think it could be valuable if you made a subdomain like this гостиницы.греции.com, then you could avoid the hyphenation problem of registering phrases.

Re: My first Russian IDN - греции.com
Blast from the Past,
Thanks for that suggestion. I did buy this name with the intention of developing it, so the subdomain suggestion is a very good one. Would it make sense at all to have subdomains for different areas around Greece, or does it only work for hotels like you suggested.
I have a couple of sites in English that I operate with affiliate programs for car hire and flights to Greece, so would this be something that would work as the subdomain idea ??
Thanks again for the reply. Appreciated as always.

Re: My first Russian IDN - греции.com
It wouldn't work for placenames.греции. However, hotels, restaurants, museums, would be fine. Try to get some of the city names. Use wiki.

Re: My first Russian IDN - греции.com
Just under 13 years later, I managed to pick up the correct version of the domain ...
греция.com
All good things come to those who wait ??
