Internet navigation problem- solutions anyone?

A new problem just cropped up, happening with most sites except google. I have run spyware, etc. to no avail.
The problem: When I click to navigate to another link or site (50%) of the time it takes me to below Microsoft landing page. When I then click "refresh" it puts me on the page I want to go to. Thanks for any solution.

Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage
Most likely causes:
You are not connected to the Internet.
The website is encountering problems.
There might be a typing error in the address.

What you can try:
Diagnose Connection Problems

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

Running XP- IE7, with DSL connection

On Firefox, it is just an eternal wait to get to the next link.
As bad as the old dial up days.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Someone might be downloading stuff from your pc, and sending huge traffic.

Do you have a personal firewall? If not, go to download.com, install zonealarm, and set the maximum protection.

Re: Internet navigation problem- solutions anyone?

Sounds like you have connection problems, and things are timing out.

Ask around your friends close by who use the same ISP. If they're having the same problem, it's likely a router playing up nearby.

If it's just you, you might have a damaged cable or something. Check for chew marks from that new puppy.

Thanks, that makes sense and sounds like the problem. I will check it out when I get back home tonight.

Re: Internet navigation problem- solutions anyone?

Repeated unhooking the phone and power connections to the modem, can cause the Network cable to be come loose. That has not only cut me off, but sometimes really slowed my machine down!

Other things to check is that your processor is not being kept busy with Anti-virus of Spyware scans. Close them down if they are active!

Re: Internet navigation problem- solutions anyone?

If it's not ISP or connection related then you can try running a few of these online scans (Only run one at any one time and close all other windows and programs apart from the scanning window .. they can take quite a while)

http://www.pandasecurity.com/homeuse...s/activescan/?

If you still have problems then go to this forum and explain your problem and they will help you out.

Re: Internet navigation problem- solutions anyone?

THANKS EVERYONE!

I unplugged the phone, modem, router and let them sit for 10 minutes, rehooked everything back up and working A-1.
Guess the router or modem just needed to reset itself.

Sincerely appreciate everyones input.
