The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers will speed development of country-coded top-level domains and local-language scripting, the group announced Wednesday at the Internet Governance Forum in Rio de Janeiro

ICANN is putting the ball square in the court of the various countries. We'll have to see who steps up to the plate.
Of course, they could keep it simple and let Verisign take care of the whole shooting match for .com and .net with

I think we need a Glossary of ICANN terms, because these strings obviously mean different things to them than they do to the rest of us! If I were "Fast Tracking", it would be done by now!
