You seem to be labouring under the misaprehension that:

1. The people at the controls of ICANN know what the only workable solution is.

and/or:

2. The people at the controls of ICANN will implement the only workable solution.

Given their history, I wouldn't bet on anything yet.
Perhaps. I don't know ICANN. But I do know that Verisign proved just how big there um.. "stick" was in the latest legal battle. And a company with that much clout and to much to lose will not just sit back and agree to new top levels as they would effectively be handing them their own heads on a platter. Who would use IDN.com when IDN.IDN is available.

Nothing has a certainty, I believe ICANN will use the mapping way.

Two reasons…

The US government has not prepared to give up its internet ownership yet..
Second, I haven't seen any strong IETF’s drafts or working groups, needs at least 3 to 5 years to gain internet standard papers, are technically able to make a enough unicode TLDs space inside root name system.

By end of this march, we will see more by ICANN meeting in New Zealand.

Yes, for Godaddy it isn't. They are getting great pr for it by the way. But for ICANN/Verisign it is. Icann proved how quickly they roll over for them, I don't suspect the dname situation will be any different.

I could care less about $12 .com's in 2012. By then when they have Dname mapped we will all be very wealthy.
