It really depends on WHERE in the Middle East you are. In some places, this word is quite common. There are numerous others...

الخلوي - "the cellular"
الموبايل- "the mobile"

These are just a couple!

Keep in mind you can have variations with or without the word "the", as well as variations with singular / plural.
