music.mobi 616,000 USD/ games.mobi 401,500

wonder if these were bought by end users or some of the same .mobi investors?

music.mobi 616,000 USD

mTLD global registry will fill for bankrupcy and it's managers run to an off-shore paradise once all keywords are pushed to suckers, lol.

These are the ultimate keywords. How much would they fetch in dot Com or even dot WTF?

Probably yes. I think dot Net would certainly make more than that and possibly dot Info as well! These numbers certainly do not put it equal terms with dot Com.

The other thing is there is definitely not one opinion on this. A significant number of the community think it will fly. I am fairly certain it won't as are many others but we are certainly not part of a unanimous opinion on this. Everyone has the right to squander their money as they please.

I don't think .info's break into six-figures very often. I think the number of six-figure .info sales can be counted on one hand, and they were all at the very low end of the spectrum.

Re: music.mobi 616,000 USD/ games.mobi 401,500

This is actually good news.

The worst thing that could happen is that the ASCII.com market could dry up.

If they are paying Mid xxx,xxx for dot mobi, then there is not a chance in hell that is going to happen. Basically, we are independent of sub-prime or credit crunch here.

Think of it from a professional speculators perspective. If he thinks he as a 50-50 chance of winning but the return will be ten fold, as long as he has his risk spread then it makes sense. He may not even need to be convinced he is onto a winner.

Re: music.mobi 616,000 USD/ games.mobi 401,500

I remember not that long ago, there were music.cctld's still available at reg fee... :-)

Now, I know that .mobi is all flash and sexy etc.. but as far as I know this extension isn't actually getting any natural 'type in' and hardly anyone (other than domainers) know that this extension even exists.

Of course, we can argue that the music.mobi sale was purely a speculative bet, but $600K is a lot to spend on this particularly when there are some idn's that will have much greater (public) perception and acceptance than music.mobi.

It's only my opinion, but .mobi looks like a classic 'pump and dump' enterprise to me.

Well if that proves to be the case, it can only help dot Com owners as it will tend to shatter the illusions around this and other alternative extensions.

There is no fundamental requirement for dot Mobi, and indeed it is increasing likely that it will prove an encumberment. The Mobile Internet seems to be passing it by, but the analysis of so many domainers is so shall that will have gone largley unnoticed. Mobi means Mobile doesn't it? So it has to be worth money, yeah? That is about as deep as it goes.

Agreed, however in my opinion idn.idn/cctld will prove to be the exception to this :-)

Absolutely!.. I'm not that much in to technology, but as far as I know there has never been a universal abbreviation for mobile phones. If there were, and a promoter started pushing that instead then it would be more interesting, but otherwise...

..and by the way, DotTv is doing pretty well these days because 'tv' means something - worldwide... '.mobi', however, means zip and I don't think the extension's intended association with mobile phones will ever work in a major way (nice idea but people need things to be really simple on the net, or else they won't go for it).

I feel a fool for letting scotland.tv drop around 18 months or so ago - it was on DNJ recently, and apparently had been sold for $6K!

This teaches us one good lesson, the keyword is very important.

Make sure you acquire really prime keyword idn. Even if idn does not take off, people dropping like hell, the prime of prime keywords will still be very valuable.

These are mainly mobile service related keywords, and I believe is the reason attracts speculator's investment.

Re: music.mobi 616,000 USD/ games.mobi 401,500

The way SEDO and mobi (That should actually be MOB) ran the auction is a disgrace.

One guy actually won the auction for music.mob at $66K and then SEDO come along with the excuse that their servers crashed and so re-opened all auctions .. extendending them for hours after they should have closed with mysterious new 'bidders' entering the fray.

I know for certain that once the hammer falls at auction both buyer and seller are entering into a legal contract so they are obliged to sell the domain at that price and the buyer is obliged to pay that amount.

Buyer was also invoiced for the amount and advised of acceptable methods of payment .. then they decide to reopen the auctions because it's not enough? What kind of outfit are these guys?
I'd like to see this buyer step up and that justice is served.

I have no love for .mob but this is yet another display of what these companies are capable of and it's high time they got what they deserve.
