Baidu changing from trad. to simp.

I enter 鑽石 (diamond - trad. chinese) to baidu and it automatically is changing it to the simp. version 钻石
Is it something that is common with baidu? what is the reasoning behind it? are they possibly trying to 'move' people towards using simplified chinese?

Yes, all traditional gets converted to simplified on Baidu.

Baidu is a search engine targeting Mainland China. Since most mainland Chinese only can read simplified, traditional is converted to simplified.

If you really need to use traditional in Baidu you can use Baidu HK and Taiwan (these will not convert traditional to simplified) http://baidu.com.hk/ , http://tw.baidu.com/
