edit: just a thought.. so does that mean then that single word arabic idn's will most likely see a faster growth in value, as most compound terms are illegible, and therefore there will be less domain names to go round?

Compound terms only work if the final and intermediate forms of the last letter of the first word are the same. Sometimes you get lucky

Hyphenated terms are possilbe but beware the Arabs have their own hyphen I believe. Goes right to left. You wouldn't think it would make a difference but it does!
