Sad that she won't christen existing IDN.gTLD as a working IDN. All of her dialogue refers to an IDN as IDN.IDN with the launch of a brand new TLD. To me, launch means fresh namespace...

The way Tina puts it indeed sounds like a brand new namespace. A bit scary to think.

But if you think it again, if there is going to be a brand new namespace for every single languages, it's a tremendous amont of cost and effort for the registry to implement and maintain them. I presume it'd be much more economical to map the IDN TLD to existing gTLD. From this perspective, brand new namespaces aren't so realistic.

I thought her dialogue was quite clear they are planning on inserting IDN into the root. This quote should hopefully calm some worries. I have no doubt that they will add new extensions as well but .com .net aren't going anywhere.
