Exclamation Very Important to all Users

This one is addressed to Forum Admins:

I would like to start bidding on some auctions. However, I first would like to read your policy regarding frauds and your mechanisms for fraud detection.

How you detect ghost users pumping up bids and how you deal with them. If you do IP logging cross checking, proxy checking and elimination, PM’s checking, post time logs verification, and what you do in case of doubt or when you find something is not right. Do you ban, expose or advert the fraudulent users?

Don’t get me wrong, values are getting high and I don’t trust my mother these days. I’ve seen very elaborate mechanisms being discovered on other forums.

Please reply and stick this post or create another one on this topic.

Re: Very Important to all Users

On the Russian forum several people have made it clear that shill bidding is 'part of business' and that they 'see nothing wrong with it'.

http://domenforum.net/showthread.php?t=7170&page=4

As is well known, Russia is one of the most currupt places in the world and remains so due to laws designed to perpetuate this.

I find it disturbing that young people (some of whom are good domainers) who have grown up in a corrupt society, now feel like this sort of practice is legitimate and can't tell right from wrong.

That is why moderators should closely watch auctions that have bids over $100 and ban all those who are shill bidding BEFORE it is a done deal between seller and buyer.

Re: Very Important to all Users

I think it is unrealistic to think that you can stamp this practice out completely.

The watch phrase is Buyer Beware.

In an auction a contract is being struck between Buyer and Seller at a given price. Other bids are simply that, other bids. The Buyer should not enter into an auction without a clear understand of what he is buying, what he thinks is fair value, and the reliability of the Seller.

In assessing whether there is a fair market in the domain in question the Buyer should not only look the Trader Rating of the Seller, but also those of other Bidders. In assessing the value of the Trader Rating, if in doubt he should look to see who has contributed to that Trader Rating. If none of the big names on this Forum are present, then perhaps he should look a little harder.

Re: Very Important to all Users

As you can see from Duck's signature, in the future, trading IDNs among domainers will be a closed shop limited to a few known-good domainers.

Much like Rick Schwartz runs a closed forum to keep meddling types out.

The fact that most of the valuable IDNs are in the hands of very few individuals, makes it all the more likely that this will happend.

When it comes to Gold or Diamond Mines, prospects are comparatively easy to acquire. How often do De Beers or Anglo American actually put productive Mines up for sale?

thats easy to say, and as you know running a forum as you do - it's not so easy to achieve.

We (mods and admin) will do what we can, when we can. But just because a sale is left to run it's course uninterrupted, doesn't mean that it has been given a seal of approval. It is very much a case of buyer be aware.

What we will commit to though, is that anyone who abuses this forum in this way will be dealt with swiftly and decisively.

Yes, its a bit like saying that if the Police do not prevent a crime then they are complicite in that crime. Clearly nonsense. We expect best efforts and I am sure that is what we will get. Whether or not that means we get a satisfactory outcome in each case is very much in the Lap of the Gods.

Re: Very Important to all Users

Although, looking at your seller rating, you haven't done much bidding on auctions here Jose. I'd say most auctions on this forum are held by a small group of buyers and seller. When the circle of traders is small, there is higher trust and less risk.
