g.cn not the holy grail?

Alexa for g.cn shows that it is not the holy grail.

If single char doesn't work, what will work?

Wait......let me try something.

Darn! Look at this result - http://www.google.com/trends?q=googl...ate=all&sort=0 :o

Re: g.cn not the holy grail?

Baidu you can say there's no english version, so they can use the dot com, but Google?? This is news to me, i didn't expect it. Auto-detect by location.

I was looking at whether g.cn can prove that single char is not the holy grail, and an IDN will do better.

And look at this -> http://www.google.com/trends?q=yahoo...ate=all&sort=0

Also, another idea, how about googlecn.com. It has alexa and is a parking page!

Either Alexa and Google Trends does pick up dot CN or nobody uses them!

Where is Chinastar?

Re: g.cn not the holy grail?

Ppl do use google.cn, look carefully, the right side of the trends page, English language does show significant stats. I guess it's the foreigners in china that use google.cn!

This is crazy, i always had the impression that .cn will get at least 10% of the traffic for .com in china, but the stats shows otherwise.

Re: g.cn not the holy grail?

You're both looking at websites that have advertised as predominantly .com

Expected results. Same as if I did this:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=g.cn%...ate=all&sort=0

I don't use alexa regularly, but does this mean anything?

http://www.alexa.com/site/ds/top_sit...ntry&lang=none

Google.cn is #4, Google.com is #7

Re: g.cn not the holy grail?

Now interestingly g.com is showing up even though it doesn't and for the time being can't exist!

And I am having some difficulties interpreting this:

http://www.google.com/trends?q=g.cn%...ate=all&sort=0

g.com already exists.

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/g.com

btw, google advertises g.cn everytime you search something, that's how it got my attention - http://www.google.cn/search?hl=zh-CN...D1%CB%F7&meta=

Re: g.cn not the holy grail?

I take that as a strong indication that it does not exist at all!

Another clear indication is that fact that IE7 diverts it to your default search engine!

Re: g.cn not the holy grail?

The answer here depends on your definition of "exists"

It "exists", but it has never been allocated or used.

To me, as a buyer of both chinese .com and .cn, only the truth matters.

But one thing i can't figure out is why the sellers on domain.cn are not selling their better dot com on this forum? The dot com flippers that came out in full force last year simply disappeared.

I don't care what people pay for domains on this forum, or what flipper say, i only care if people start typing in on my names and PPC starts flowing.

The truth is a concept that many on here struggle with. However, some verifiable substantiation of assertions, from time to time, would be nice!

The truth does matter for us, even flippers among us are also part investors, which is very common.

Now we're talking about selling a few grand, or twenty thirty thousand or so. In the future, depending on what we bet on, it maybe the difference between one hundred thousand or a couple millions!

If you consider the fact that IDN.CN is already type-in-able for 80% of chinese internet users (whether they use IE6 or IE7 doesn't matter as CNNIC uses web navi redirect for their own IDNs), the traffic flow is simply not promising.

I've done so before already.

Remember when Giant and you embarassed yourselves because he couldnt read Chinese properly and blamed it on the way it was worded?

It's clear that both of you have missed the boat on .cn. I hope your chinese.com make good sandtoys.

I wasn't aware that you had proved your point.

One ambiguous posting sounds like that single swallow that is not quite confirmation that summer has arrived.

I am not saying who is right or who is wrong. I am just asking that people don't make wild assertions that others cannot substantiate because absolutely nothing has been promoted in terms of verifiable evidence. Calling dot com Sandtoys is a prime example of what I am talking about!
