Re: любимая.com - Russian IDN - sweetheart, mistress
IMHO
Just a tiny correction: ЛЮБИМАЯ doesn't mean mistress, girlfriend, sweetheart or lover. It's an adjective and commonly must be followed by a noun that is described as "beloved" or "favorite". For example, the word can't be used in the following construction when you want to say: She is my lover (or girlfriend, mistress, sweetheart) Although in old 19 century poems written in high style this adjective was applied to a women to mean "woman I'm in love with"- this is not how this word is used in contemporary Russian language. Exact meaning of word ЛЮБИМАЯ is "beloved one" and "favorite" (most common usage) applied to a feminine noun and unfortunately you can't use it alone, by itself - as it requires a noun to go after it. For example, it's okay to say ЛЮБИМАЯ ЕДА - favorite food. But if you say just ЛЮБИМАЯ - people will stare at you waiting for the next word to be spoken. But - this word/domain name can be used for dating site or related service as it can be made into a trademark because the word does hold romantic connotations. Re: любимая.com - Russian IDN - sweetheart, mistress
I want to quote google dictionary:
Quote:
Also I want to show You a quote from yandex translation (which is Lingvo translation in fact): Quote:
To describe the meaning more, You can compare the meaning of this sentences: Honey, I am home! Милая, я дома! Sweetheart, I am home! Любимая, я дома! ...which are the same in fact. Am I correct? RussianDomainer, are You shure this is adjective? Think it is participle. Quote:
I feel that I must say the word is not noun at the start. Due to this I will agree with cancellation of any bids above. Last edited by khurtsiya; 12-27-2007 at 01:46 PM.. Reason: Automerged Doublepost |
