Angry Domain Industry Predictions for 2008

wow, let's see their view on IDN...

ICANN will receive 100+ new top level domain (TLD) applications in the first wave but will receive twice that many before the end of 2008.

Two-thirds of the new TLD applications will be for IDN top-level domains.

Here: http://www.domainnews.com/general/20...ions-for-2008/

Do you see any possibility of this IDN TLD SPAM wave happening?

Re: Domain Industry Predictions for 2008

That is why they a developing a policy procedure. Just spamming ICANN with an application form isn't quite going to cut it. However, a large number of application will be accounted for by IDN ccTLDs.

Besides the more extensions and confusion there is, the more people are likely to migrate back to the tried and trusted dot com.

ICANN still refuses to say the word "aliasing". Why won't they say it?

Re: Domain Industry Predictions for 2008

As this platform has spat out my predictions for 2008, I am not sure I can be bothered to try to remember what I wrote or type it all out again.

What I can tell you is that current level of service will not sustain interest in this Forum.

Well...what the hell are we going to do?...wait for the next IDN forum to rise from the ashes like the phoenix - or fight like hell for this one? I don't know where Olney is right now, but I'm sure it's not because he can't be arsed wth IDN's!

More like he's flat out doing something else with his life...he'll be back. And so will IDNForums.com...

Re: Domain Industry Predictions for 2008

My predictions for 2008:
  1. Google will learn how to index latin IDNs
  2. Google still won't allow IDN URLs (vanity URLs) in Adwords
  3. Local players (Yandex, Baidu, Yahoo.co.jp) will work harder to lock foreign IDNers out of their markets
  4. Mass migration to Dynadot will cause Domainsite to go bust
  5. ICANN still won't utter "the A word"
  6. At least one of the "old guard" will reveal that they own a massive IDN portfolio

He goes walkabout more than an Australian Bush Man!

Fight? What is there to fight? How can you fight a wobbly platform when you have no access to and the owner never seems to confide in anyone about the problem or even acknowledge there is one.

Re: Domain Industry Predictions for 2008

My prediction for 2008:

1). Financials, builders and mortgage firms continue to report losses.

2). American inflation becomes very much higher than growth - i don't know what they are going to call this, but they won't use the R word.

3). Gold prices shoot to $1000 and above.

4). No significant changes to IDN market other than increasing PPC. Maybe we'll get some interest for our arabics when oil prices hit $150 a barrel! :0 http://www.247wallst.com/2008/01/oils-next-stop.html

5). ASCII market continues to face falling PPC.

Re: Domain Industry Predictions for 2008

OK, we will try one more:

Major US Bank will go into foreign ownership.

Democrats will win a Landslide.

Major new OS for PC will be announced.

China will announce manufacture of CPU.

Airbus will announce manufacture in China.

Top IDNers will lose interest in trying to develop or sell names.

Hey, if I was as popular with the ladies in Japan as Olney is, I'd be going walkabout a lot too.

I have to live vicariously via his youtoob clips.

Re: Domain Industry Predictions for 2008

IDN domains in January 2009:

1. Traffic is up from January 2008, but is still nothing to brag about.
2. No reported IDN sale over 100K.
3. "Does my PPC income cover my reg fees?" is the major question.
4. IE6 market share worldwide drops to high teens/low twenties.
5. Secondary market dries up - new buyers are not buying, sellers are not selling.

Wow, 2009 is too far ahead. I don't even know if ppc is still available to retailers like us when the recession comes come 2009. If ad spending slows too much, Google might decide to reserve whatever is left for themselveS! :o

Or they can swallow their pride and allow "vanity URLs" in Adwords.
