Vote Clinton!

In a Presidential Election that is quickly resembling a bunch of passengers fighting over the steering wheel of a bus that is hurtling down a canyon out of control, it seems that at least Hillary understands the nature of the problem. Whether, she can sort it is another matter, but did you ever see a man that could sort out the Housekeeping Money?

Citing jobs data on Friday that showed the U.S. unemployment rate rising to its highest level in more than two years, Clinton said, "I think the economy is slipping toward recession."

U.S. employers added only 18,000 jobs in December, underlining a dramatically slowing economy. In addition, oil prices topped $100 a barrel this week.

"The unemployment figures on Friday hitting 5 percent, $100-a-barrel oil that we also hit this week, the fall of the dollar, there's a lot of pressure on middle-class families and a kind of cost that they have to keep up with have all gone up astronomically," the New York senator said in a debate with Democratic rivals before New Hampshire's tight nominating contest on Tuesday.

Re: Vote Clinton!

You're not even living in the US. Why do you care what goes on here or what the elections come out to be?

Because US Presidents have a habit of not only affecting the lives or billions of people around the globe, but actively interfering in them, I think we all have an interest. Once they start minding their own business, perhaps the rest of us will be happy to leave them in peace.

Re: Vote Clinton!

" But it's certainly not a democracy in the sense that most of us would understand that term, when it comes to selecting - rather than electing - a president, and it was never intended that it should be.

When the founding fathers created their constitution, in the aftermath of the American War of Independence, they sought to modify the prevailing revolutionary and libertarian mood by building in checks and balances to prevent democracy from getting out of hand.

One way of doing this was to require that senators should be elected to Congress for six years, thereby rendering them free of popular pressure for most of their turn. Another was to create the Electoral College, which meant that the president would be chosen indirectly rather than by the American people as a whole.

From this side of the Atlantic, these roundabout and arcane processes of choosing a leader seem mildly reminiscent of electing the Holy Roman emperor in medieval and early modern Europe, and of the way in which popes are still decided on by the College of Cardinals to this day."

No this is not Duck rhetoric. This is the BBC!

If you think the US should start minding its own business, you should support Ron Paul:

Since you can't vote in the US, in this case, your opinion doesn't really matter, so why botter getting worked up about it?

Re: Vote Clinton!

Ah but since the US invaded Iraq, Iraqi's should be allowed to vote in the US elections as well.

Along with anyone else adversely affected by the Bush-enabled increase of Al Queda membership.

Re: Vote Clinton!

The way you can effect change is by voting your own local kowtowing politicians out of office.

Yeah, that kind of attitude, which has been expressed so succinctly by Bush is why you don't really have any allies left. We are sick of getting the big Fuck You from just about every thing from Iraq to Climate Change. And we don't greatly appreciate being lied to either!

You're off if you are identifying me as representing America. And, I don't want to read about politics on a domain forum, not US politics, not French politics, not Chinese politics. Its the wrong venue, and that's the most important point. Second of all, instead of whining about another country, you could do some good and put your own politicians out of office, since they are the ones that keep bending the knees whenever the Yanks are in town.

Re: Vote Clinton!

Oh, but we do get it all the time!

Just read the article from that tosser at the Guardian who is on about the threat to the Root that Russian pose by threatening to introduce Cyrillic Domain names or the fishing threat that keep on about being posed by .PY.

The crap that the Americans put out about the Chinese is totally unbelievable, except in America where it is just lapped up. Much of that relates to the Chinese Internet and eCommerce.

Yes, and you are correct, the supplication to the Americans has to stop, but watch how quickly that habit dries up once everyone realises exactly where in the pecking order the US economy is headed.

Even at a military level Bush has neutered the US. In order to take US troops anywhere else, any time soon, the US President is going to have to score a massive PR victory with his people. After Iraq it is difficult see how the US could even attempt to wage war against Korea and Iran. What is more they know it, and are now laughing at you.
