This is probably the best one out of the bunch.

If they ever start selling real absinthe again in New Orleans, all my absinthe related domains will be gold!

Re: New Orleans Domains

I don't get it. Why would I have any doubt about these?

Is this a statement about the rebuilding of a major American city or about the translations?

Gerry, don't worry - Blast is pulling my comment out of another thread in an attempt to tell us to leave the good domains free for him.

Blast, I appreciate your humour :-)

Re: New Orleans Domains

Blast would never do such a thing. *gasp*

Anyway, I am just happy that N.O. is still on the map. I regged most of those before Катрина.

We have billboards here that say, "Atlanta showed you love. New Orleans wants you back!"

I assume Houston has the same thing going on...?

To reach these families, Jetson’s organization launched an all-out media blitz in dozens of cities, mostly in the South, through radio ads, direct mail, and a series of billboards with slogans like, “New Orleans is Coming Back. Will you?” and “Fort Worth took you in. New Orleans wants you back.”

New Orleans had the highest murder rate and most corrupt police force in the nation. At least once, the FBI went down and put the entire city police force on leave and took matters into their own hands. It was not a nice city, for the most part. Hell, I was scared to drive through the west side without an Uzi. Katrina may have been an act of god in more ways than one. I hope the place will rebuild itself with a focus on being a friendlier city.

Re: New Orleans Domains

I used to go there a lot. It was nothing compared to Los Angeles. Great food in NO.

By the way, Louisiana has always been known for corruption. It was founded by Pirates.

Did you ever drive from the Superdome west on Earhart? God forbid you turn south on one of those sidestreets for some odd reason.

Back in the 90s, before cops had gps in their cars, the natives were known to remove the all of the street signs so the cops couldn't radio in their location for backup when they were being carjacked. One of the favorite techniques was for several people to climb up in a tree where they couldn't be seen and wait for the police car to stop at a stop sign (yes, we know that good cops obey traffic laws), and then jump out of the tree and take the car. Good fun.

Re: New Orleans Domains

Hey, I worked in South Central L.A. for years. After going through the 1992 Civil Uprising in Los Angeles, New Orleans didn't scare me. I regularly went to the Ninth Ward for food - good food!

I remember that area - Earhart. Just be careful there. Don't do anything stupid and watch your back.

I worked in the French Quarter for 4 years when I was in the hotel biz back in the mid 70's. The town was way out of control...but in a surealistic way. Convention groups could not get enough of the city, and if you stayed in the tourist areas in groups, it was pretty safe. But get off the beaten path, you could get in trouble real fast. We had to lock down the hotel at night to one single entrance with tight security just to try and keep the hookers from getting in and riding the elevators to try and find customers. It was a big place, 1000+ rooms, 41 floors. I worked shifts at one point on Night Audit, which also mean being the Night Manager. Believe me never a night went by without another story to tell.

The Latvians have taken this to a new level. I stayed at Hotel Reval Latvia (Riga, Latvia) a couple of years ago during early December. This is a 26 story, fairly new hotel, and very nice. The place is full of Brits on drinking and sex trips because Ryan Air opened a route from Manchester to Riga. The basement of the hotel has a strip bar and a couple of other all night long clubs. There is also a club on the 26th floor. You can imagine that the place is full of young and unbelievably beautiful Latvian hookers. Most of the girls are presumably 18, but I also saw a few older American men with 16-17 year old girls at the top floor club - there was no way they were 18.

After 10pm, they prevent the elevator from going to the basement, so you have to walk upstairs to the lobby to get the elevator to your room. There are guards at the entrance to the elevators. If you have a pretty girl with you, the guard simply escorts you to the front desk and you pay the difference of the double-occupancy room rate to let her go up. They have another guard at the top which routes guys with girls into an elevator which goes directly down to the lobby. I think that most of the girls are in cahoots with the hotel, they get kickbacks on drinks, room rates, etc.

And this is really a very fine hotel :-)

Sorry for taking this waaaay off topic :-)

Same here. I do hope that VieuxCarré.com is a hit, too.

I just realized that I had forgotten 新奥尔良.com in the list (Simp Chinese).

Re: New Orleans Domains

If I had only made a T-Shirt for you to wear!

Next year, I will have them....

Nouvelle-Orléans.com
VieuxCarré.com
GâteauDesRois.com
Bâton-Rouge.com
NovaOrleães.com
NuevaOrleáns.com
ΝέαΟρλεάνη.com
НовыйОрлеан.com
نيوأورلينز.com
뉴올리언스.com
新奥尔良.com
ニューオーリンズ.net
NouvelleOrléans.net

I have more NO domains somewhere. And, I am not counting Noémi.net as one this year, Noémi.

Does Soirée.info count?
