IE Japan Auto Update Date finally published

The Date for the Japan IE7 Auto Update is February 13th 2008

http://internet.watch.impress.co.jp/.../18/17927.html

I don't know if this was posted before or not but I think it was just released a few hours ago.

I've had to deal with quite a few company related things this month & an outbreak of influenza here in Tokyo.

Re: IE Japan Auto Update Date finally published

Not sure I would believe anything I saw even on an official Microsoft Site.

MS started to roll this and then stopped promising to revert to the original dates. If this is true it already represents a further two month delay, beyond what MS agreed under duress, but anything is possible I guess!

"Confirmation" from MS though would be desirable.

I hope this is accurate. I really hope so. Even then, it will be months before we start seeing decent traffic. At least something to look forward to....

That is indeed good news, especially getting the release started early in the year.

Nobody... *nobody*... has a legitimate version of Windows in China.

If you went into a computer store and wanted to buy a legit copy of Windows, you would probably be laughed at.

If you buy a dell notebook, it comes with legit copy of windows, unless of cos, you opt for no-OS version.

I remember a few years ago when I was computer shopping in China almost everything for sale was the "no-OS" version, and they would install the pirated version for you right in the store 10 seconds after you bought it.

LOL :-) So in your opinion, were the laptops cheaper without the OS or not much?

My first PC was from a mail order outfit, most probably working out of a garage, with no software preinstalled.

And cost wise, yes it was less than half the price you would pay in the shops.

I've built every PC I've ever owned, starting in 1993. Of course, that's not an option for laptops... which is what I mostly use nowadays. I have never bought a laptop, though - they've always been provided by my employers. I have had 4 laptops, and every one of them has came with windows installed. First thing I do is wipe the hard disk and install linux.

Most employees of British Companies just wouldn't have that level of access.

It was almost that bad here 12 years ago. Ten years hence I guess we will be back to the same position.

They would if they did the same type of jobs that I do :-)

Luckily this won't matter for China AU because they turned the verification feature off for IE7 - they announced that.

I think we have to conclude that everything they state is bullshit until it has been confirmed by a reliable independent third party.
