Re: What happened to Olney

Maybe on Vacation.

Tee1 pointed out something very interesting though that one of his domains was updated fairly recently.

Re: What happened to Olney

I voted for "forced marriage" but wouldn't that be considered "relationship problems"

I think/hope he is on vacation enjoying himself.

not sure what all the events are that will actually change the "Updated date", will a server change(registrars server dies/not that ever happens) at the registrars do that, any other kind of registrar related activity, or is it only when changed/updated by the USER/OWNER. I thought MJ, Jose, or Drewbert might have some thoughts on that.

Well, for instance if he has his domains set to "auto renew", then they would show updated dates.

Re: What happened to Olney

Just one question: Why do we think IDNs are *that* important in his daily life?

Why can't he just have better things to do? Girls, TV shows...

I do however think that he already considered some us as friends and so he ought to pass by from time to time to say hello to friends.

How about Edwin? What happened to Edwin?

End of the day we've got a forum to run here, and an industry in it's infancy we need to nuture and support.

Craig does have (by all accounts) an amazing life outside of this place, and IDN's surely make up only a small part of it. But even though the frequency of his visits to the forum fluctuate from time to tiime, he has never gone offline for such a long time, and especially without giving a heads up to his mods.

As Alpha pointed out, this forum will slowly bleed to death without new membership. IDN's are just starting to make a real stir in the domaining industry, and this forum is one of the most high profile IDN specific forums on the net. We face becoming little more than an elite backwater with a fixed membership - until the host eventually dumps it when server bills aren't paid.

We need to direct new traffic to a viable alternative until we know what the future of IDNForums is - and DNLocal is the most logical choice - IMO.

Re: What happened to Olney

I agree, I agree, I agree.

Was just trying to calm people down, but I must face it: something is wrong!

The key to this might be a new call to his mother....

His last posted message was on mixi on December 31. So up to that point I know he was alive. I'll be in Japan next week so will try to give him a buzz.

My guess is he has been arrested in China for putting up stuff on his Kanji names that he didn't know meant something in Chinese.
