Nope, Domainsite charge me two years for it but I never got control of the Nameservers.

Hmm, that's interesting.. I think I heard something about you having it back in 2005 (?) but didn't know you had that kind of trouble with it.. Sorry to hear :-(

I suppose China may be thought of as the exception (?), but do you know of any other countries that disallow geo-based idn's?

.gr Geos are restricted by EETT, the Greek domains authority.

Hmm, interesting.. Sounds like the well-known geo owners in ascii.com, like Associated Cities, might not have much to keep their eyes on abroad then?...

The last time I checked, there were still a few 'country' idn names available, and in their respective cctlds too (which I find incredible!)... But regging them appears to be quite a convoluted process, and invariably requires you having to set up a local limited company in that name..

I've thought about each of them, in detail, but on balance I think the risk of having them later taken off you is just too great.

The only domains for individuals to develop are IDN(city).com, .net, .tv etc. Thats why the .coms are so valuable. Seems like ages since we have seen any major cities in .com for sale around here.

Guessing that the city governments will have their official city websites at idn(city).jp, idn(city).cn etc.

Yes, sorry Bill. I didn't mean to slight idn.com (scouts honour).. Yes, of course, there are the .com names to consider also, and I understand that many of them are now attracting traffic and high resale amounts :-)

I think you're right by the way about city authorities adopting the cctld's, and this may help to spur the further growth of these names..
