Explorer is an unknown quantity at this point
Re: Vista Delayed Until 2007

Yep, the media is making a big deal out of it. But for those IDNers who have been waiting for 5 years, another several weeks of waiting will seem like a split second.

I think this is the bad news, which I think they are about to try to bury with some good news!

Re: Vista Delayed Until 2007

Long term it's not an issue, but it means that the BIG wave of Vista take-up won't happen for 12 additional months (i.e. until December 2007), since PC sales zoom higher around Christmas and they'll miss the market this year. Of course, there will be plenty of folks going for it before then, but I'm talking about the biggest single wave of users.

Looks like IE7 will be a stand-alone product anyway. So, it's not an issue. Or it could mean more time for us to find and reg IDNs :-).

Yes, it is a disaster for the PC Components and Assemblage Industries.

It don't mean much to an IDNer, except that if you try to second guess Microsoft, which is alway dangerous, as you will tend to assume rational behaviour, then I guess it is very good news.

I would see them riding the heat for a few days before starting to ramp up the publicity for a full launch of the standalone version of IE 7.0. This bad news had to be got out of the way first and the publicity around the Browser Launch will put it the back on most peoples minds.

The Beta 2 seems to be ready and as it will all be automatic updates, then quite frankly they can do the remaining minor adjustment post launch if necessary. My guess is we are about to see a lunge for the tape as far as IDN is concerned!

In that case, the big takeup in China will start only 2008 - after that, within a year, one quarter of all systems might be upgraded to run on Vista. And by the end of the second year, probably half of all systems.

Not sure that is the case. What it means is there will be delay in the uptake by Western Consumers, but the production runs are unlikely to held up. It is likely that there will excess stocks of hardware hanging around somewhere waiting for the software to arrive. It may well be that much of that stock is cleared onto the Far East markets, which will not be so heavily driven by a western religious event. Infact, it could fall nicely for the Chinese New Year!
