Anyone who can confirm that книжки is the prime term for book in ukrainian?

Yes. It is a Bulgarian word too. I don't know exact translation from bulgarian; it could mean "booklets".

Книги & книжки both can be used as russian and as ukrainian. Both are plural in both languages.

Книжки can be used just as books (книги) and in meaning of small books (маленькие книжки, банковские книжки, зачётные книжки).
