I watched most of it. I think the fees were set too high to be able to bid. I may have bid on a few if it wasnt a 500 fee to have that privilege.

For $1.5mil for Camps.com & $1.5mil for StockQuotes.com, I would've thought that those those names would've been sold!

What about this one:

Quote:
CustomerService.com …………. Pass …………. 2,500,000
Passed at 2.5m!

You have to consider that these names are, of course in the hands of investors expecting returns on the order of what they paid for them.

Still, it seems silly. It's not even a single word, and it's something people hate to deal with or work in.

Camps and stockquotes were a steal when you consider that turkey.

EDIT: spelling. My Mac keyboard is shipping

Re: Results for Moniker-Snapnames Live Auction last night

Look Monte explained to me after the fiasco at Associated Cities that his Auctioneers are entitled to bid on behalf of the Seller. In British English, as I understand it, that would be Shilling Bidding but in America apparently, it is just custom and practice.

The important thing to know, however, is that there was never any cash on the end of a lot of these "bids".

Re: Results for Moniker-Snapnames Live Auction last night

Okay, but still, someone is WAY overvaluing their name at 2.5m.

I think every domainer thinks his domain is business.com, and 99.9% don't realize what kind of work went into that domain after it sold.

Yes, that one too, but I missed seeing it in the list when I did a quick glance over it, but I did mention it yesterday on Namepros when someone posted the list over there also.

CustomerService.com for $2.5mil & being passed in, what was the owner smoking? :o

As RD mentioned, the auctioneer is allowed to shill bid up to the reserve. But, still, that puts the reserve at 2.5m or more. I'm sorry, but it's not a seven-figure name. Two words that NO ONE wants to hear.

I have never heard of any practice where the auctioneer can "bid".
At auctions I have attended someone puts their paddle up to signify a bid.

No problem with an auctioneer dropping a starting price to get things going, but once you have a bid on something,
the auction is then followed thru if there are more bidders or sold at that price. Some items have no takers at opening
price then auctioneer passes to next item.

Can you explain more about "Monte's rules". Thx.

price then auctioneer passes to next item.

Can you explain more about "Monte's rules". Thx.
Basically, nothing South of the Reserve means nothing, and observers cannot always tell when the Reserve has been hit.

The last Auctioneer just stated a price and then moves up two or three times without anything actually happening, whilst totally ignoring phone bidders that were below where he was up to. Then he declares it to be passed, when no bids were actually received. Monte has assured me this is in entirely legal in the USofA. You would probably get jail over here!

This is BS of a way to run an auction unless this is fully disclosed to the bidders.
Do you know if they publicize this?

The Auctioneer actually makes a brief statement to this effect at the beginning of proceedings, but it is highly ambiguous and is unlikely to show up on most buyer's radar screens. So whilst probably legal, it is not really very ethical.
