Collective Action to force IDN.com into M. Firefox

Dear Fellow IDN Investors,

It is ridiculous that IDN.com still does not display properly in the address bar of Mozilla Firefox. For example, when I type in Haïti.com, M.F. instantly changes that to http://xn--hati-6pa.com/ , totally ruining the image of a country homonym that the site should have.

I submit that this will never change until we work together. I have written to the IDN department at M.F., complaining that it is ridiculous that they simply sacrifice IDN.com for the excuse of security. It's like grounding all planes simply because a terrorist might get aboard. Until they get a flood of our mail, they will not change their crap system. That means I need YOU -- all of you -- to send them an email. Then, please reply to this message letting me know you are part of this effort.

http://www.mozilla.org/security/#For_Developers

Also, I have written to Verisign. I told them that I have written to my congressmen with this message -- "Given your very profitable monopoly, with inflated prices (compare to the recent price reductions with .org and .info), it is especially outrageous that you cannot work with Mozilla Firefox to get IDN.com in proper order in the year 2008." Again, until Verisign gets a flood of emails and calls, they will not work with M.F. on this issue.

As long as we don't work together, our collective interests will never be heard. Please work with me on this. Let me know you're with me.

Brian

All I've got so far is bizarre comments in response to my posting.

Is anyone interested in working together to achieve our common interest? If you understand the problem, then you know this is not only for me. This is for all of us.

If you think collective action never works, then you don't know much about its very important role in politics and commerce. I know there are IDNers out there with the courage and intelligence to stand up for your interests. Where are you?

Well if I were interested in trying to progress this, I would seek to team up with people without "Whacko" stamped on their forehead.

To really have an impact on organisations like this, you need credibility. If you had any here, that would be a start!

What I'm hearing is, "Let's not talk about any coherent strategy to accomplish common interest. Let's focus on recriminations."

No thanks, RD. I'm not in the recrimination business.

I applause any effort of trying to force FireFox to become smart. I'm afraid FF will die young!

Ajiotaj,

Hey, thanks for calling my attention to this. It's so great to see someone responding to my posting with something substantive to say. Thank you.

On another important topic, I think Congress should be asking why the Verisign monopoly prices go up, while their costs go down, and other registries are lowering their prices.

But note that I did put the initial point on writing to the F.F. people. Obviously they are the ones who are most responsible for disfiguring IDN.com's.
