Register.com $35 for an idn .info per year

Looking around came across an idn that showed that it was not available on other registers. Went to register.com checked and it was available. Went through the motions of going to check out and found the 1 year registration was $35 bucks. Are they out of their mind?
They were kind enough to add for another 9$ for private registration and the default registration was for 3 years.
Needless to say I said screw it. They were kind enough to ask if I would like the domain held by them until I could decide if I really wanted it.
This practice is crazy.
The domain remains unavailable at other registers... Something fishy going on I say.

Does the domain show up in WHOIS as registered anywhere?

Have you tried using the punycodes to register elsewhere instead if unicodes? There are some words in Thai that show up as being taken by some registrars and not others but if you use punycodes, the results are always the same everywhere. Not sure if this applies in your case.

Don't you understand what she wrote:

This is called "front-running". It's a shady practice, and Network Solutions is now under a lawsuit because of doing this themselves.
