Appraisal Service
Can you recommend any appraisal service for IDN:s?
I found idnappraiser.com out there, think it belongs to the alias IDN.
Does that service work well, has anybody tried? Or do you have another tip?
Thanks

Re: Appraisal Service
I think your best appraisal service is right here. The only problem is sometimes people are to busy to do it. You won't get a dollar/pound value, but if it is a keeper, you will be happy to hear that.
Perhaps an appraisal service will be started soon. (hint, hint)

That's just it, the amassed knowledge is here, no doubt, but it's hard to get an objective evaluation, and sometimes hard even to get any answer at all with focus on the question. There are a lot of politics and opinions, and naturally eveybody want's to protect or improve the value of their own portfolio.
It's of course tougher to value IDN:s than ASCII since there are so many more varibles to this game, but if somebody with knowledge, integrity, professionality and dedication does set up such a service, I for one certainly would be willing to try it.

As I said, I'm game. Go for it Phio.
And what about the one I mentioned in my first post? Has nobody tried it?

Re: Appraisal Service
Personally I would never pay for an appraisal either ascii or idn- but that's just me.

Re: Appraisal Service
An appraisal service would have to be fairly objective at this point. For example EntertainmentFurniture.com sold for some good money a day or so ago. Who would have thought that would be a valuable name? With IDNs it is harder. One needs to know many factors including: Current Trends, Keyboard Shortcuts and Abbreviations, Words with multiple meanings, Population and Language (accent) considerations, current popularity in ASCII, mixed scripting (both alpha and numeric), popular terms and unpopular terms etc...etc... all of these considerations would be varied depending on the language and the country that uses the language. ie Spain and Mexico may use a word in completely different contexts. A Spanish word may also mean something to the Vietnamese or Czechs. There are many variables, and what about longtail IDN's? 2 or 3 word combos? The research on those words will need to be doubled. A real appraisal service for IDN's would have to have a native speaker from each of many countries, and those natives will have to have some domaining or internet developement experience. Also, it would have to be a team effort, using logistics and algorithms.

And I think many in here will agree with you. Still I think it would be a good thing if the opportunity exists, even if all appraisals of domains per se is a somewhat inexact science (also for ASCII).

Exactly, I see you have been giving this quite some thought , but I seriously doubt most professional ASCII appraisals of today are this methodic and careful.

Re: Appraisal Service
You don't need "native" speakers to do appraisals for a language. A fluent foreigner who is an experienced domainer can most probably give you a better appraisal than you'd get from a "native" who isn't a domainer. For example, I assume that you are not a native English speaker, but you could certainly do better appraisals on English domains than my mother could.

Re: Appraisal Service
Yeah, you're probably right Ross. A fluent non-native domainer will be better at it, but I do think an actual appraisal service would be well served to have access to some natives -- to help with words that can be slang or nicknames, abbreviations etc that a fluent non-native domainer may never know about.
Native is such a strange word.... I picked up nativetonguedomains.com a while ago...
That's a long-tail ascii for ya!

Cool. I got TheNativeWeb.com several months back. I started to dev it, but haven't had time to continue. I'll get back to it someday.

Re: Appraisal Service
Since we're all natives somewhere in the world, those are pretty good names!

Holy shit. I forgot that I put that site up. That is hilarious. Yeah, one early morn I "started" that site. I have not looked at it for years. (last updated September 2004) Has an alexa ranking. I also have idnappraisal.com and idnappraisals.com

So something tells me that A) there hasn't been a surge of customers? Or perhaps B) you never got around to activating the contact form
