Is Paypal about to kill IE6?

Web payment firm Paypal has said it will block "unsafe browsers" from using its service as part of wider anti-phishing efforts.

Customers will first be warned that a browser is unsafe but could then be blocked if they continue using it.....

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7354539.stm

Internet Explorer 7, Firefox 2 and Opera 9 have phishing filters, but Apple's browser -- Safari -- does not. Safari also does not support Extended Validation SSL (Secure Socket Layer) Certificates, issued to Web sites that have been vetted as legitimate.

Well, that could force upgrade in Australia since Australia can't use Ebay anymore unless they pay with Paypal. This is a pilot program and may be expanded to other countries.

Re: Is Paypal about to kill IE6?

I think this could be the way things are going. It may be that the big banks will follow.

From this it looks as though Safari is going to be blacklisted, so IE6 is almost certainly for the chop!

Not sure generally - did see an abstract of a report on usage in China and they were losing out to "Alipay"
Aliplay is an annoying system for anyone without a Mainland credit card and mobile number to sign up for making payments through - but with international payment processor partners growing all the time - should get better over time).
Presently limited to Visa for international payments - lol!!!

But saying this paypal is very annoying for use in many countries - as they do a test charge (to make sure card works), before they authorise the use of paypal account (so is time lag of up to a month while someone waits authorization code on their credit card statement).

Just got a guy who refused to sign up to paypal and asked me to use Alipay instead - groan

Cheers - Asiaplay

Re: Is Paypal about to kill IE6?

Paypal didn't have a Japanese language version till last year.

I don't know single Japanese vendor that accepts payment by paypal.
