LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Comstar United TeleSystems JSC said its broadband internet subscriber base in Russia had reached 848,000 users by the end of the first quarter of 2008, up 14 percent over the end of 2007.
The telecommunications operator in Russia and the CIS said its broadband internet subscriber base exceeded 796,000 users by the end of March 2008 in Moscow, 15 percent more than at the end of 2007.
The company said the total number of pay-TV subscribers in Russia increased by 8 percent to 241,000 subscribers by the end of the quarter, including 130,000 in Moscow, an increase from 122,000 at the end of 2007.
Sergey Pridantsev, president and chief executive officer of Comstar, said the company plans to increase subscriber base in Moscow to 1 million by the end of 2008 and reach a 50 percent share of the Moscow broadband market by the end of 2011.
