IDNr is an unknown quantity at this point
Will there ever be .com in other languages?

Will there ever be .com, .net, etc in their native languages. For example google.網 which means google.net in japanese. Because will people truly want to type in 2 languages?

Thanks

Yes, it is likely to take another 12 months and the way each extension will be represented in various languages has yet to be determined, but IDN.ASCII will give way to IDN.IDN. There will, however, only be one Dot Com registry and the extension will be Aliased into every script.

It may be that Chinese who have been promoting an extension that means Company will be allowed to keep it. Whilst this may cause some confusion initially, it is very unlikely to have much long-term impact on the dot com extension.

No, it will enhance their value enourmously.

Those that have been sitting on their hands thinking that there is going to be a new wave of registry launches to service IDN.IDN are going to have missed the boat! To all intents and purposes, the domains that available now represent the majority of the IDN market. The only real offerings of any signficance that are to come are IDN in Dot RU and Dot IN as well as some offering for Arabic which may eventually be supported with a Pan Arabic extension similar to Dot EU.

It is unlikely that the domestic registries for these ccTLD IDN will just let US speculators walk in and scoop the pot. They are most likely to subject to a Sunrise period. As the awareness of IDN at that time is going to heightened even further, competition to register domains will be intense.

My advice is to register what you can whilst you can. If you are unable to make new registrations in good Keywords then consider buying up some of what is the secondary market whilst they are still cheap. Good names at several hundred dollars may seem expensive now. In a few years time they will look like the bargain of a lifetime!
