The rate of return for 'free' internet tools is very low. How much revenue do you think something like google translate gets? Almost none. It is a goodwill project to build the brand.

idn.bz ver. 4.0 is out!

Your donations have bought my time! Have been working on idn.bz and coded three new great features:

1. To all of you drop catchers out there, it shows now the days till expire on .com and .net extensions.

2. It will also show if .org .info .ws .tv and .cc are available. Many of us use this to check the quality of a domain.

3. And the best for last, it now shows idn.cctld checks!

Also, it’s now much faster.

I have some doubts, that maybe you can help:

Should I check idn.co.kr or idn.kr? Why does Google uses .co.kr? Are .kr free to anyone?

Should I check .pt or .br on Portuguese domains?

Are .tr free to anyone or just .com.tr?

Any idea on how to encode the idn whois check on whois.cnnic.cn? Searched all over the net and found nothing. On denic.de it was also a pain in the ass, but I was successful using "-C UTF-8 -T dn $domain\r\n". Why don’t they just use punnycode?!

- Fixed: Naver links fixed (again). They are back to UTF-8 from EUC-KR
- Added: Days to expire on non available domains (will show in red if domain has expired!)
- Added: Now shows other extensions availability: .org .info .ws .tv and .cc (this uses Ajax and does not slow down the page load, as it will only show up when finished)
- Added: idn.cctld checks! Available only for Portugal, Germany, Japan, Korea, Turkey and Twain (Chinese Traditional) cctld domains.

Also Italian has many IDN words like casinò (casino), università (university), caffè (coffee), tè (tea), libertà (liberty) and so on.

-Added: Variant double checking. In case of too good to be true domain availabily results, the script does a variant checking (slower) on the background to ensure the domain is really free. Next time you refresh, result will be accurately updated.

The best just got better. Now everything about your keyword on one single page! Finaly idn.bz has traffic and CPC values for any keyword! DON't ask me where I am getting the data from. I think no one has yet found this way of getting data from one of the top search engines...

I appreciate your efforts. It is wonderful to have all the information in one place.

I have only one question. If I enter in a term with one language selected and get results, I cannot seem to be able to change to another language for that same term. Even if the first query was with an incorrect language.

For example if I were to check ローン in Chinese (obviously incorrect) it will not allow me to try it in Japanese. It always switches it back to Chinese. Even if I use a different browser.

Am I doing something wrong?

You'ne not doing anything wrong. I am aware of that issue and to be honest, have not decided yet how to deal with it.

When someone searches for a new term that's not yet on the database, all the results (except the availabily realtime checking) are frozen in time. This includes the language choosen.

Then you can: wait 10 days (the current number of days the values are considerated outdated and refreshed) or drop me a PM for me to delete it from the db.

I am considering adding a delete button, but was affraid the Google bot will press it every 5 minutes, making the whole idea of the db useless. Maybe with a CAPTCHA?!
