China's .cn Now the Second Most Popular TLD

Quote:
In case you needed further proof of China's breakneck pace of growth, VeriSign is reporting that the .cn Top Level Domain (TLD) has now become the second biggest TLD, surpassing Germany's .de.

The stats are part of VeriSign's ongoing look at how some TLD registrations are performing.

Yes, but how many of these are registered by clueless Western speculators taking English keywords because the initial registration prices for ASCII are like for nothing?

Re: China's .cn Now the Second Most Popular TLD

it seems probable that CNNIC is not going to drop expired dot cn's as lost names.

They will simply store them as inactive in whois, and let an aftermarket form more effectively ...maybe...
but they will not want to lose face with the 12 million declining as millions of names never get renewed....

They will need to lower the IDN dot cn price eventually to gap fill ......

I have never seen an official number of IDN dot cn's ever posted ....
but at 10%.....we would be 1.2 million...
if 5% we would be well over 600,000.........which would definitely mean the
secondary market is approaching full tilt...

the www.gov.cn PR release is nice......would have thought that was coming closer to the Chinese new year.....
