Well when the dollar is 3 to the Euro, then I guess these will be well worth looking at.

What are your thoughts on the netbook. How does it perform and such. Because they are so inexpensive i was thinking of getting one a while back.

Re: Anyone getting a $250 netbook?
I am happy with my macs, even when my latest one was $2500 instead of $250; but well you cannot only have one netbook for work, as you cant do much with a $250 plastic box

Re: Anyone getting a $250 netbook?
I bought an Acer Aspire One for $350 a few months ago. 8.9" screen, but a 120GB drive and Windows XP installed. I like it. It's ultraportable, cool, but the functionality is great. The keyboard is only 10% smaller than a normal keyboard - it does take a little getting used to, but it's still fairly easy to use.

Re: Anyone getting a $250 netbook?
I also picked up an Acer Aspire One. $349 @ BestBuy. 1.6G processor, 160G HD, built-in web cam, 802g wireless, several USB ports. It has an SD expansion slot on one side that can be used like an extra hard drive and also has an additional SD slot. I got the white one, which is actually a pearl white. One month in and no problems. A nice tip: A portable DVD player case (9/10") works great at about $25.

You don't want to learn linux, it's way over your head and your time is more valuable than the needed investment.
You might be interested in learning one of the popular desktop systems for linux, though, such as Gnome or KDE. I have used Gnome for years and I really like it. It has such nice features as multiple desktop screens, programmable key combinations (shortcuts) to launch your favorite programs - example, I use alt-f to launch firefox.

Re: Anyone getting a $250 netbook?
I got myself a Samsung NC10 netbook (is a little more expensive at USD515)
- 10.2" screen, 6-8 hour battery life (this is so cool!), 120GB HD, 2GB Ram... runs windows still (so saves learning curve and runs MS Word and Excel - which are needed for my work really)... but will run Linux if I so choose it to...
Great little machine for travelling or when out for a coffee... cheers, Asiaplay
PS: 3G and this netbook = 100% access (and screen is easier to read than my HTC PDA... both useful though).

From discussion around the Office, the big attraction is to use it get grips with Linux before Windows gets ditched.

Re: Anyone getting a $250 netbook?
Yeah - nice idea Rubberduck...
(I might use my old, old laptop for that later - if any time comes free)
I will perhaps switch over when the software I use is available on Linux (or something to replace the software my customers use, so we can communicate without hassles) are available...
I must admit, that most things are already available in Linux, which I personally need to use often (even my SEO tools)... but not all of what my customers use (and send to me for comment) is available yet (with photo & video editing and windows core applications, there are issues and I also dread to find out what language issues might exist with the 10 languages I need access to)...
I really hope Linux software applications do get there and I am sure they will soon (as I am not a fan of windows, at all - but it is a work usefulness call for me at the moment... and I need to do more than just browse the net with a netbook for it to be useful!!! I guess for me it is a mobility tool, where I can still do anything my PC would do... depends on ones focus I guess).
Cheers - Asiaplay

Re: Anyone getting a $250 netbook?
some of those netbooks come with ssd drives. I like the idea of having no moving parts in a computer increasing speed and reliability. very cool.
