How would we verify that this in fact the primary term? I only get about 48K on Google, which is way too low!

Sorry, but this is the primary term and the owner wants quite a bit for it!

Re: India.com in Hindi

Well, India is known by two terms, भारत and इंडिया. Though you would find more pages for भारत, but the latter infact is used more in the verbal hindi communication in the hindi heartland of the country. भारत is pure form of India and pure breeds may prefer to use it like that in the written form. इंडिया is transliterated form of India. Being a local person myself, I think you could trust me here ..

Example, here is the largest career of India (Air India)

http://hi.wikipedia.org/wiki/%E0%A4%...A4%AF%E0%A4%BE

and,

here is one of the largest circulated hindi magazines of India
http://hindi.india-today.com/

Well, I should think so. $100K probably wouldn't be unreasonable at this stage!

Not really sure in view of the uncertainty as to how each would be used, but I would think somewhere mid $xx,xxx would be sensible.

I get US Overture on Urdu terms but it could be Farsi users. The other problem is US users might not associate India and Urdu!

Re: India.com in Hindi

That's understandable because yahoo/google search has only recently been started in local Indian languages. A clearer picture will emerge after a year or so.

Hi, please note that the term is इंडिया and not इंडिय as what you have written. I guess you meant इंडिया. Cheers!

This is what makes Indian IDN names more complex.
Not only do we have many languages, sometimes the transliterated terms are more popular than the actual words.

Just goes to show, they might speak English, but they won't write it, at least not in a way that an American or Brit can read!

The trend is in the opposite direction however.

Sanskritization

Under governmental encouragement, the officially sponsored version of the Khari-boli dialect has undergone a sea-change after it was declared the language of central government functioning in 1950. A major change has been the Sanskritisation of Hindi. Three factors motivate this conscious bid to sanskritize Hindi, being:
The independence movement inculcated a nationalistic pride in India's ancient culture, including its ancient classical language Sanskrit;
Independence was accompanied by partition along religious lines, with Muslim-majority areas seceding to form Pakistan, and a partial rejection of Persian and Arabic influence in the Hindu-majority areas;
The people of south and east India were averse to the dominance of the language and culture of north India in the affairs of the country. The Hindu populations of these regions did not identify with Hindi itself or with the Mogul (Persian, Turkish) cultural influences that had shaped Hindi, but they were more receptive to Sanskrit. Sanskritization was thus viewed as a means to make Hindi more palatable as a national language.
