It's all a big joke - the only person who isn't laughing (because they've failed to spot that it's laughable) is the seller.

I could go on eBay and ask $1,000,000 for any junk domain I just randomly registered e.g. fjjtr88.org - doesn't mean that it's actually WORTH anything at all.

Well, アニメーション does seem to mean animation, and clearly has some value. It gets 10 Overture bids with the second being ¥70. Clearly though for the dot net I think he has accidentally typed the $ sign when he actually meant ¥, otherwise its, as Alan Greenspan would have put it, IRRATIONAL EXCUBERANCE.
