Mixing up the web!
As the web enters its second decade, the old barriers are blurring or breaking down completely. Media is transforming technology and technology is transforming media. Web “designers” are starting to write a little code, while Web “developers” are learning to twiddle pixels. AJAX is redefining the boundaries between client and server. RSS and web services give you the power to recreate the web the way you want it.

Everything is getting a little MIXed up.
Taking predictions. Will we see the release of IE7 on or before this date?

I say a week before.

Unfathomable

I think this is an impossible question to answer.

There are a number of issues:

1) How badly does Microsoft actually needs this if they are to fulfill their dream of putting their software onto all communication media appliances?

Failure is not an Option

2) To what extent do they understand how critical this is for them?

Probably haven't given it any real consideration, as there is no direct revenue stream?

3) Do they have the capability of doing this?

Probably not, it a awfully long time since they have published unplagourised software of any great importance?

4) How bad is it going to look by comparison to Firefox 1.5?

Well checking, I am actually on Firefox 1.07 and frankly I am not expecting a great deal?

5) How serious will it be if they don't launch before Firefox 2.0

Total disaster as it will almost certainly compare unfavourably! At least if they publish first they can claim to be working on the next issue which will be even more amazing. If they can fudge the issue they stand to protect their market dominance. If it gets widely discussed in the Press many will wake up for the first time to the fact that there is a better option.

Personally, I don't care how bad it is as long as the IDN support works. If they cannot manage to insert a copy of the widely available code into the damned thing and make it work, then we are all in serious trouble!

I think its February or Bust!

Dave

Well, unless the other vote for February was from the Far East, nobody got that right.

How long does anyone think it will take to get this to go public as automatic update. If it goes on as system update then any minor problems can be sorted out with update patches. Are we really very far away now?

I would speculate that we are not very far off from the full public release. I'm sure a a month or two of testing along with the mix06 and the full release will be shortly after that. They have already stated there would be another build of IE7 specifically by Mix06.
